Axle Seal
Hello Everyone, I have a leak coming from my front axle on my drivers side and was wondering if anyone could explain what all is involved with replacing that seal and if there is anything special needed.
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for any help.
take the tire off, then the brake caliper, then the hub assy., and pull the axle shaft out. this is as far in as i have been. the seal is on the inner end of the axle tube so i believe you have to pull everything off the other side as well then the diff cover, the carrier, and then you can pull the seal out through the differential. i could be wrong as i've never had to do this but it is the only way i can see to get it out.
You do not need to disassemble the diff .....
I typically pull the knuckle, then u can use a seal puller and it will come out .... Also by pulling the knuckle, its much easier to install the new seal once your all cleaned up and ready to install ...

How do you take the seal out and put it back in from the outside if its an inner axle seal? All of them that I have ever seen you have to pull the carrier to change it. If it was the passenger side with the vacuum pod then you wouldn't have to remove the carrier.
Once you get the carrier out just remove the old seal and its been a while since I have done one but I think when you put the new seal in you can use a socket that's the same size and you should be able to tap it in but I not 100 percent sure.
