Default 88 7.3 wont start after intallation of manual glow plug relay.

My 7.3 IDI.was running fine but ready for new plugs. I wanted to try the manual setup this time. I installed as instructed leaving the wires on the small terminals disconnected. Glow plugs are new and cycle when I activate switch. Fuel pumps through lines when cranking. Smoke comes out of exhaust but it won't fire. I'm wondering if it relys on one of the small terminal wires to run. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

first things first, if you were to hoop it back up to the controller, will it fire right up?

That's my plan as soon as I get home.

I left the block heater plugged in all day and when I got home it cranked for about 10 seconds and fired. It stayed revved for a couple seconds burning off all the fuel from previous cranking. So hopefully it was just a fluke thing or its losing prime. The glow plugs are all new and get power when I cycle them.
