I just got a new puppy. It is a border collie/australian sheppard mix. She is very cute but anyway she doesnt really have a name yet. I have been thinking about it and ive kind of been thinking about naming her cammy. as in Camshaft but since its a girl i was thinking cammy. Anyway i kind of want the name to have some relation to pickups or dirtbikes or something like that. I am a very avid dirtbiker and snowmobiler and i love my pickup so i want it to be something somewhat related to one of those things. Any input is appreciated

 

She will be a very smart and faithful partner for you. Many people do not understand how important a dog’s name can be. Naming a dog correctly can save their life. As a lifelong (59 years) dog owner and self-proclaimed trainer, I would suggest that when naming a dog you stay to 1 or 2 syllable name (Single (1) syllable works the best). Dogs will learn their name and react to it much easier. Also if you are going to spend time outdoors with your new friend, the name should be something that you should be able to yell very easy. That way she can hear and find you when she gets out of sight (also using a whistle helps a great deal). The breed mix of your new partner will respond to sight and sound very well. A good name must also allow for deflection in tone. Your partner must be able to understand when she is good and bad, this is done with the deflection in the tone of the name. Any name should allow for that deflection to be easily understood by your new best friend. Hope this helps, just my thoughts. Enjoy your new best friend, may you have years of great fun together.
