Has anyone ever used a HHO kit on a diesel? I have a 1998 Isuzu hombre 2.2 gm with a HHO generator and get close to 80 mpg. I also have craftsman 25 hp rider mower with all hydro. And working on a unit for my chris craft 5.7 260 hp barge. Any views on hooking up hydro on a diesel, thanks

Yes it has been done, although usually instead of a hydrogen cell, usually a watermeth injection is used. Mostly on towing rigs.

 

I have seen it done here and there on some of the HHO forums, I do know that you have to be careful about not running a to high concentration of the HHO though because it will over time it will kill the lubrication in the engine because less diesel is flowing through it. You could make sure that you are running some WMO through it and that will help.

Unless you are using a set up that separates hydrogen and oxygen separately (which will make a huge dent in efficiency) you will also have to be careful about getting water into the engine and later, rust. In general long term HHO should be reserved only to engines with an all aluminum block, simply for the rust factor. I know the Hydrogen and Oxygen have been separated, but some of those molecules do end up recombining on their way through your HHO setup and on their way to the engine, and we all know how bad water is on diesels (especially the 6.9's and idi's)

Please don't see me as a nay sayer to the HHO stuff (it has been done before, anyone that makes a big deal over it is killed though ....) You best bet for a cheaper fuel though would be to set up a WMO processor (in the process of setting one up now that cuts out the expensive stuff, will make a thread when I do about how I did it.) If your concerned about the environment, you probably shouldn't be driving a 6.9 or idi

Diesel + Hydrogen = WHOooaaa!

 

H2 is the #1 element and is extremely explosive...This is the reason the auto industry has never used it as a fuel for internal combustion engines...The H2 fuel cell engines that the auto industry has been experimenting and researching does not burn H2...It passes the H2 through the cell and it generates an electron to operate an electric motor to propel the vehicle...Be very carful with H2...

 

H2 and propane have the same effect in all ... but extended usage and not monitoring you EGT's ... either one will burn the oil film from the cylinder walls and cause scarring to the walls of the cylinders....

that being said ... if done correctly and monitored , It should work and show gains .... some guys are now running a low pressure Nitrous system , like the new D-max ... getting 34mpg on the freeway ... DAMN !!!! wish i could get that with either my IDI or CTD..... ..

 

I think even with the most money put into an idi they won't see over 26 mpg. The being said they can see as little as 1mpg easily :p
