Default Fuel Plate/Star Wheel

So I just bought a 98 12v Cummins, and I wanna add more power, as well as some smoke. And I've quickly learned how to do it and what to adjust. Question is, should I wait until I purchase Gauges, or will not have an affect. I'm purchasing gauges regardless, but if I don't have to wait, I wanna adjust them. Comments?

If you want smoke crank the star wheel all the way toward the motor and turn the smoke screw all the way in!Its not going to raise your egt's cause its pre-boost,but mpgs drop a lil but barely noticeable! When you get gauges remove the plate and get some 370 marine injectors and you'll have all the smoke you've ever wanted!

Not true. Especially in high-load situations at low RPM. If he's asking how to make smoke, he'll probably figure out how to dump soot by lugging it and end up melting a piston, cracking a head or grenading his turbo.

Get your gauges first, my man. Once you have them installed, focus on making power. The smoke will come (I promise) and your truck won't get monkey-stomped by the first V6 Mustang that rolls up next to you at a stop light.

I haven't an egt problem and I haul a 15k 5th wheel up some massive hills!
For some reason it's hard to get it over 1200* when hauling the trailer?

Gauges first, then take care of the killer dowel pin.

Yes, I really want more power out of my truck, and if more power is going to make more smoke, where do you recommend I start for increasing my horsepower so I don't get shown up by that V6 Mustang

I haven't done any adjusting for my timing. I have the 5.9l Engine in my Cummins Sport with an auto transmission. I have an aftermarket air intake. As far as that, that is all the knowledge I have on this Cummins.. I can tell you that my torque isn't very strong on take off.

Gotta open her up for air, then add minor fuel!
To much HP and TQ and you'll slip your TC
Get a 4in or 5in straight pipe then after market air horn, then do a mild fuel plate and slide it all the way forward and afc housing!
Have you already messed with the afc?
