Default 12 valve Excursion, ex. manifold questions

The exhaust manifold on the 1st gen Cummins puts the turbo too close for comfort to the fan box. I can see it over heated or melting it being a possiblity. Fordcummins sells a manifold that puts the turbo down below and out of the way. I dont want to spend the $400 they want for the manifold if i dont have to. Is there a cheaper way? Maybe a second or third gen manifold? Lemme know, thanks

The 2nd-gen manifold is the the same. The 3rd-gen has a an offset outlet - although offset to the rear. It can be flipped to get the turbo forward, if you have enough hood clearance.
