Default new to diesels and about to purchase an 89 need advice

Hey guys, I have been looking into buying a diesel for about 2 years now and am finally in a position to do so. You all are familiar with the you tube smoke outs and rolling coal and it looks fun but I'm more interested in the power and performance perks to diesels.
I have a good buy on an 89 model f-250 with a non turbo 7.3 and want to know if this is a viable option?

I really love mine ... easy maintenance , and fun to play with .... no real strong towing like my Cummins ... but will get it done all day long ....

I only need it to pull an 18 ft bass boat with a 200 racing merc so I'm sure it would do fine. But what about upgrades? Like could it be a "hot rod" so to say? Like great acceleration and hp

Well now hold up, Hot roding is to each his own. You do to your vehicle what seems best in your eye. That's a hot rod. But You are pretty limited performance wise with IDI, but by all means go to town on the cosmetic haha best of luck

Hey thanks for the input guys. I think I have enough info to pass on this truck and continue my search. If anyone has any recommendations on a truck that is capable of upgrading performance wise to be a "hot rod" I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks again

You can make some power out of the truck, but not without pulling out the check book I just got mine a couple months ago and love it, however the PO loved her as much as the trash can, so I'm being forced to spend more than I would like too, but well worth it all IMO. My 0.02 worth, just sit on it

Ok? I'm not looking to run her on the drag strip but the whole allure of a diesel to me is the potential power and performance they offer. Pretty much everyone agrees its a good truck and reliable which is a plus but also the minimal performance options make it a tough decision since I'm not made of money to afford it if it turns out to be not what I'm looking fot
