I have a 1992 7.3 that won't start. It runs great when it starts, but will not start everytime. Thinking electrical because it quite starting when I took the door panels apart to work on the power windows and door locks. Then we got it running again.. Then I took the dash apart to fix the dash lights, and it won't start again. Any ideas?

 

Does it crank, or is nothing happening at all

 

Glow plug controller working ?
positive on fuel ?
check all connections on Injection Pump ... check for ign power @ IP

 

It cranks just fine. Glow plugs are fine, has fuel in the lines. I let off the parking brake and it started. There is a wiring problem. I have been told something is probably crossed or a connection is bad or there is exposed wire. Not sure what to look for.

 

Probably having a cross when you press the brake, but that's strange for it to just happen. Was it doing this before?

 

I've only had it about a week now, so idk how long its had the issue. It's been starting fine all day now. There is a wire between the driver door and the dash/steering column somewhere.

 

Ok I think you need a wiring diagram about now .... ..... pull the kick panel at your left foot and start looking for wiring that is chafed and also look abve your steering column .... sounds like you may have a cracked dash frame ... I had this happen to a towtruck friend of mine ... ran us both in circles .... also whith ignition on ... make sure your getting power @ Ip ... try with E brake on and off ... start limiting what makes this phenominom happen .... post more when u can .... got me thinking over here .... might have to make a trip to cali to see this one LOL....

 

I'd look for an open wire around the parking brake parts if it started when you let off of it
