curious about aftermarket turbos

Default curious about aftermarket turbos

I have a 06 dodge 2500, i have done some modifications; built trans and tc, airdog 165, afe intake and horn, bully dog gt, and cp3 bag of parts. I am currently running the stock turbo and was looking into doing twins. Most of the kits ive seen utilize the stock turbo. But i was curious if it was possible to run a phatshaft silver 62 in place of the stock turbo when doing the twin kit.

I was also curious about others experiences with single or twin turbos

you can run a 62 for twins.

just get a S300/S400 piping kit, a 2nd gen 24v manifold or an aftermarket manifold for a 2nd gen 24v and then an S475 or S480 depending on how much power you plan on making...

(you will need the second gen manifold because 3rd gen manifolds push the turbo back too far or forward too far when you flip it..2nd gen manifolds center the turbo in the engine bay. you will also be mounting it upside down to have the smaller secondary turbo closer to the hood so the primary (larger) turbo can mount below/behind it.

the HE351cw does make a good top turbo in twins, but it can limit top end performance because of the small 9cm^2 turbine housing. 62/65/12 or 62/65/14 would also make a nice top turbo for quick spooling.


as for a single: really depends on what kinda power you want to make.... 62/71/14 is good for the 500hp range.

64/73 is good for 550-650hp silver bullet 66 is good for 650-700... and so on... I personally don't like singles because of the lag. twins greatly reduce the lag and make the power more useable and come in sooner.

interesting, i hadnt heard that about the manifolds before. What my plan is,is to run a silver series phat shaft 62 then do the II add a turbo kit.....any thoughts on that kit?

overpriced...

you can run a 62 and easily add a turbo later without spending a fortune...

jacob from DAP sells S300/S400 plumbing kits and primary turbochargers for twins...he sells the smaller 62's as well.

much cheaper route than II..

I run the twins I speak of... though I'm not running a 62 as a top turbo, I'm running a 57/65/14 as a top and a 75/96/1.32 as a bottom.

with the piping I recommended. been running them for 3 years without issue.

as for quality? Jacob sells genuine Borg Warner turbochargers BW has been used in OEM applications including cummins for a LONG time (usually find them in the heavy equipment and genset cummins engines)

3 years of my abuse and still not even a minute amount of shaft play. turbo's are doing great. piping is just piping. all working like it should.

I had my piping powder coated when I got it as well as my valve cover, tstat housing, alt bracket, IC pipes, and turbo elbow.

i looked at the DAP website they sell the same add a turbo kit as Industrial Injection. With the plumbing kit Id have to buy that and two turbos it seems like roughly the same price

start seeing boost fairly early, however the hard hit in acceleration doesn't usually come in till about 1800rpm unless I mash it early in the rpm range. anything over 2000rpm spools instant. great power and EGTs are very easy to control
