Default Adding Oil To Your Tank.

Guys I have been doing A LOT of reading on adding oil to a tank of fuel mostly because of USLD. But im wondering about fuel mileage increase and don’t seem to find any direct answers. Im also wondering thinking about adding clean used motor oil to my tank for two reasons. One to get rid of it and 2 well for add mileage. So what do you guys think about adding oil to your tank 2 stroke oil or used engine oil or anything else?

I've only tried 2 stroke. It did quiet things down a bit. I really don't track my mileage, so I can't comment on that part.

Personal preference, I wouldn't pour anything used into the tank. That's just me...

I use 2 stroke - just about every tank both in the 12V and the 24V. Seems to make a difference but I have no proof.

I think you would be ok using freash motor oil (I would find some cheap nondetergent 30 wt)...but the 2 stroke is a safer bet since its made to burn.

Here's a really good independent study.

some info I found out there

Converting used motor oil to a useable fuel source. Currently, the market for used motor oil has stymied many recycling and reclamation efforts. The market for used motor oil has largely been geared to limited processing steps which convert the used motor oil into a low quality fuel such as bunker oil (#6 fuel oil) . Alternatively, a limited amount of used motor oil is reclaimed and converted into a recycled motor oil product.

Used motor oil retains a high energy potential. However, hazards and cost associated with collecting, storing, transporting, and general handling of used motor oil has limited the efforts to collect used motor oil for disposal or recycling. Although the prior art provides limited processing of used motor oil for other petroleum products, there remains a need for improvement within the art of converting used motor oil to a high quality energy source.

Waste oil from internal combustion engines can be cracked under low temperature, low severity conditions to yield a number two grade diesel fuel.

The starting hydrocarbon material, used motor oil, is characterized by a mixture of parafins, napthenes, aromatics, and olefins. above thirty percent distilled, cracking becomes vigorous between 60 and 650°F. The condensation temperature of the distilled material never exceeds the maximum boiling point temperature for #2 two diesel fuel. Therefore, in terms of boiling points, the cracked material meets the specifications for #2 diesel fuel.

Metal particles are typically in the micron and submicron range and represent particles sufficiently small such that they pass through standard oil filters.

So technically it would burn as a fuel source but metal particles would steer me clear of it.

I dump my used motor oil in my big trucks( Int. DT 466 and series 60 Detroit) fuel tanks every oil change 1 reason is to get rid of it and the other the price of fuel keep going up and 10 gal. of fuel is money saved, I use atf in my dodge though 1 qt. per tank and howes fuel conditioner

No ATF in the fuel tank. Very hard in injector pumps.

Use something thats designed to burn (TCW-3 2 stroke). The friction modifiers in ATF will quickly damage the close tolerances of your injector pump.

This is an old mechanic trick - problem is that the trick is still around but the formulation of ATF is a lot different than it used to be.
