P0087
My 07 LBZ with 273k is continuously throwing the 0087 code when under a heavy load. When it does, it puts me into safety and that gets extremely old and dangerous. I can clear it and it may come back in an hour or in a week or not for a month. Yesterday, it threw 0087 three seperate times within a four hour drive. Fuel filter was changed on Tuesday. I have a hypertech tuner that stays on stage one. I really only use it to keep my tire size correct. Running 265/75/16s with 99% of driving on the hightway. Exhaust was changed to 4 inch cat back. I've driven this truck since new so i know that is all thats been done.
I've been chasing this for a long time. I recently replaced the entire fuel filter housing and that did not help. I also have an 05 and two 06's that occasionally throw this same code. All of my trucks now have over 190k so im wondering if this could be a sensor issue or something that is common to duramax's with higher miles?

it might be time to replace the rubber hoses after the filter and up to the CP3. on old lines, they can become weak and collapse restricting fuel flow. they can also degrade to the point that, the layers in the hose separate and collapse internally, develop leaks and let in air, etc
it is also possible that the pressure regulator is going bad or the CP3 is getting weak.
if your hypertech tuner shows fuel rail pressure actual and desired then this can help pin point the problem

Do an online search for fuel kink duramax. That may be your problem. Do you have a lift pump installed? Do you have the gear to test the vacuum on the test port to show you how the fuel system is working?
