Default wont shift in O/D

It will shift like a champ if you just take off normal not pulling anything. But if you get on it or when im pulling a trailer it shifts all the way up to overdrive fine but I can tack it all the way up to red line and it wont shift into overdrive until i let off and the rpms drop considerably, and by this time I have lost my momentum. Is this possibly a sensor or switch or is the tranny just wearing out? Its been rebuilt probably 30000 miles ago.

it could be a sensor going out,but it could be the torque convertor starting to go out.

If I had someone hook a scan tool up to it and drive down the road should it throw a code if its a sensor? And could it possibly be the tps? I changed the tps a few months ago because it was jumping in and out of o/d at 60 mph. I put an aftermarket one in and it fixed that but I have heard that its better to go with a factory tps?

usually with scan tool you can look at reading cold and then hot. Most the time its usually off bad like showing 160* cold. You can also look at tps at rest reading and adjust if needed. There is a value printed on the tps sensor that it should be set at and there is a small amount of adjustment that can be made to reach the desired volts. You can also remove the metal inserts in the screw holes and hog the plastic out some to allow for more adjustment if needed.

I would get it scanned. TPS will show up when scanned if out of range. I had my truck scanned couple days ago and it read "TPS high voltage" code.

Would be a good time to check the throttle valve too!
