5.9l vs. 6.7l cummins
First post so bear with me. I have a 98 2500 12v and love it but i need to upgrade into a 3500. I have been looking at 04-07 with either 5.9 or the 6.7 engines. Is one any better than the other and what is the average mpg for each. New to all this and would appreciate some input from anyone.
5.9=great motor, basicly no emmisions junk, and decent fuel milage.
6.7=good motor, has dpf, egr, and now for the 13 models the def fluid.Lower fuel milage than the 5.9L. If it didn't have the emmisions garbage on it . It would be a better motor.

Thanks for the information. It sounds that the 5.9 is the better engine with less of the emission b s. As far a torgue are both engines about the same. I will not be doing any modifications just need a strong engine to pull heavy loads. Plan to get a 6 speed trany as well to avoid any other problems. Also is there any particular year model that I should avoid? Have been looking for 2004 thru 2007 model trucks.
egr-delete=engine (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
dpf-delete=exhaust(Diesel Particulate Filter)
as far as torque, the newer diesels will have a little more torque.

Got it. Starting to understand the lingo. Having a older model truck never realized the modifications. Just want to buy another truck that has been as dependable as my old 98 which has been a great truck with hardly any issues. Thanks for the help.
The 5.9 is non-emissions, gets good fuel mileage w/ potential great fuel mileage. It can pull a house off its foundation and not work up a sweat.
The 6.7 is chock full of emissions non-sense, fuel mileage is low but it will pull your house off its foundation including your neighbors house and his outhouse and not work up a sweat. You just have to deal with all the emissions crap. Delets will help it perform better and up the fuel mileage, but it will never be as good as the 5.9 fuel mileage IMO.
