New Diesel owner
ok so I have driven diesel trucks for over 10 years but have never owned one, nor been responsible for upkeep or any PM on them. My truck is a 2010 powerstroke6.4L fully stock. Is there any suggestions or things i need to consider or look for in this new truck, what is best type of oil, and air/fuel filters any tips and or advise is greatly appreciated. looking forward to making many new friends here in the diesel truck community.
I change the oil every 5,000 miles, change my fuel filters every 15,000 miles, & drain the water out of the fuel once a month. Doing those thing will make your 6.4 last

just make sure not to fill a egr equiped truck all the way up on oil or the CCV will push the excess into the CAC and gum up the inktake along with the sensors, full synthetic oils are beneficial
Under the driver side, by the frame, where the fuel filter is, there is a valve that you'll open for about a minute & it will drain the water
I would suggest a dpf delete at least if not a cat delete as well. I don't know too much about diesels myself but I have heard of the dpf givin problems down the road. It will open the truck up a little and let it breathe. Downfall is it require a programmer. Money pit haha
I would suggest if you're going to leave it stock to at least add a cold air intake. That will help it breathe a little better. If you really want to unleash the beast then consider spending about 2 grand on H&S XRT Pro programmer, DPF/CAT delete pipes, and cold air intake. You will be shocked at the change in performance. And, it'll lengthen the life of your truck.
The 6.4L comes stock with 350HP but you can't really feel it. With the above mods you can add another 250HP and make your diesel perform like a dream.

yea prolly will do pipes and intake w/chip for dpf but dont know if I need to do the egr delete, really dont know what it does. i know the kit to remove it is cheap but, if it doesnt need to be removed i dont wanna remove it
. make since?

The H&S or Spartan tuners will delete the EGR and you don't have to block it off or remove it.
I have a friend who has a 2004 F250 with the 6.0L engine. He had a coolant leak in his EGR (common problem from what I understand). He had to pay $2100 to get his EGR deleted!
Definitely delete that EGR. That system is junk!
