My 97 had a similar problem, although it was not computerized, the fuel pressure at higher rpms would get cut down, when hitting 5th gear it would stop, just installed another lift pump, and it fixed the problem.

thanks for the info i did check my fuel pressure on the lift pump. mitchell ondemand says with out the truck running the fuel pressure should be 5 -7 psi and running should be 10 psi i didnt even get 5 psi. i changed pump using the one that came off the other engine it didnt seem to help. i will check the fuel pressure on this pump next. i did change both batterys thinking i had weak battery. didnt help either also changed all sensors on the engine no luck. i still need to check alternator.

Default VP44

Try this, my 01 had the same code, basically its the VP44 death code however the fuel relay will kick the same code if it goes bad. Change the Fuel system relay, in the fuse block under hood. If that doesnt help sounds like your VP44 is shot.
