6.5 Normal oil pressure?
Just got a 98 GMC 2500 with a 6.5 about 4 days ago and wanted to know what the normal Oil pressure is for these engines, Looked around but couldn't really find a anwser.
Thanks,

General rule for the engine should be around 40 not to far below that of course and not excessively higher either 40 will be about halfway on your gauge my buddy has the 6.5 and it doesnt ready any different then chevys 5.7 practically identical as a general rule oil pressures kind of stay around that number obviously some motors are different but 6.5 I would say you should be seeing atleast 40.
You might need to verify oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.
Oil pressure switches are items that fail and aftermarket OPS are notoriously poor quality and give odd gauge readings-AC Delco only for OPS.
They seldom fail though on 96+ trucks so chances are yours will be an aftermarket junk OPS if you are concerned about the gauge reading?

Just have the Stock gauge in the Cluster. 40 is what i figured, 40 at Idle and Goes up to 60 When driving which i figure is Normal (More RPM more PSi). Just wanted to make sure.
Yeah no worries there shes definitely within a healthy nominal anything under 25 and i would start to get a little worried thats what my GMC is running right now and its only got pressure in about 3 cylinders so i think shes still doing pretty good she doesnt have enough power to get over 35 but hey shes still runnin! But yeah oil pressure can say alot about the wear on an engine 40 at an idle is great and 60 while driving is normal as well theres usually a 20 psi difference in there just make sure shes not over filled on the dipstick and your good to go. Low pressure can also signify a bad oil pump as well.

She does burn alot ALOT of oil though for the record.

Yeah thats normal for that kind of mileage your rings, seals and pump wont last forever. 30 is better then 0 thats the way to look at it.
Id start too worry anything below 30psi hot..make sure oil is good and switch other than tht its the oil pump or bearings. ssdiesel supply sells a better 6.5 oil pump alternative upgrade for around 180$ i think
