hey guys. im working on my buddies 6.5 for him and these diesels are my weakness. but he had an issue of no power awhile ago brought it to the dealership and evidently they dont know anyhting. they replaced everything possiblde and didnt get better. so my buddy replaced the IP even though dealer said it was fine and the truck ran great for about two weeks then it lost power andwas spitting and sputtering when he power braked it. any ways he asked me to replace IP and injectors for him so i did. the truck runs smooth and smokes it up so i believe hes got good FP but i havent gotten a guage on it yet and the grounds are good and i cant find any boost leaks but seems to me like its not spooling up. how common is that crossover pipe collapsing etc. any info would be great. thank you!

ok iv got code 35. my buddy as replaced that a few times he said and it never changed the way the truck was acting and the IPi just put in also came with one so i dont believe thats my issue. anythng else yall can point me towards

 

I would check the wastegate and vacuum pump for vacuum. To me it sounds as if you are no getting enough air.

Found this on diesel place, under a topic for code 35

"Found the trouble, turns out the pulley on the vacum pump had worn a hole in the hose on the diaphram, replaced the hose, works good now, no more codes. Thanks for your help as I learned lots from you all. good info for future problems Thanks again!!! "

 

It sounds like a boost control problem to me as well lots of smoke witha 6.5 is a bad thing in the long run If it were me I would do a turbo master and a boost gauge dial it in to about 10 to 12 psi and enjoy

Heath diesel told me anything over 7-8 will throw codes even with the turbo master. Not tha throwing a code is a bad thing when you know whats going on, but something i should point out.

 

DTC 35 - Injection Pulse Width Error (Time Short)

Not much to do with boost if you ask me,more like a PMD or bad IP problem.
The code 35 can also be set by a dry IP,meaning that lubricity additive in the fuel sometimes makes code 35 go away.

Have you been using an IP mounted PMD?
What brand PMD is currently in use?
Has TDCO been set on the IP's installed?
What color is the smoke?
