Default Beginner Performance/MPG upgrades

I'm fairly new to the diesel world and I just recently bought my first duramax LB7 and was curious about what I could do to get better MPG's and some performance, and wanted to see what you guys thought would be the easiest/budget friendly options.

An exhaust helps with both as does a tuner. You can get a used ppe standard for 300 and a good mbrp for 3-400. That should help you out in both aspects. It will completely change your truck for the better.

what MPGs are you getting now? if you are in the higher percentage range you may not see much increase.

with the increase in HP you may end burning up more fuel unless you keep your foot out of it.

in my opinion a tune customized for MPG by a reputable efi live tuner will get you the best gains.

I did the air box mod and straight pipe exhaust with a bully dog triple dog on the economy(most of the time) and if I keep my foot out of it I am getting around 22-23mpg but my injectors are about shot so that may have some affect on it.

Also having a better turbo that works sooner in the Rpm range will help efficently burn all the fuel ... or more of it anyways ... it is spendy but i have seen a few guys herelocally get 1-3 mpg increases when gently cruzing the freeway .... guess it works good ... just depends on the beast , and the right foot ..
