I have heard some people say putting a flatbed with a built in gooseneck ball on a truck and towing a good sized gooseneck can stress the frame and bed mounts more than usual even if the truck is rated for it. Is this true?? I have even seen some people cut out the recessed ball in the bed and put a plate underneath the flatbed in it's place. Is it something I should do just in case? My grandfather has a few old farm trucks that have not run in a while and he would probably give me one of the gooseneck plates in them.

Does anyone on this part of the forum have things they love or hate about the flatbed on yer truck?

 

Had a flatbed on the 86, only dislike was the length but the truck had the same wheelbase as my mothers Mercury Mariner, F350 SHORT wheel base dualie Dump. The 88 had a flatbed, sort of, the cage for the torches was frenched into it, so the top of the O2 bottle (300 series) was within 2" of the top of the cab... I do miss both of those trucks just because they were work horses, They made the 05 F250 in the driveway look like a pony next to a Belgian...
The only downside was that I couldn't just throw stuff in the bed, had to put it in the toolbox or strap it down.

well i can't answer yes or no. i don't really see how it would. but if you have adiquate mounts then you'll be fine. but i will say that if you pull the bed on a old gin truck and that bed was on there for the last 20 years, the top of the frame is very thin and essentially smashed down.

 

the flatbeds can be very heavy pulled the flatbed off the dodge when i first got it and it was all the old mans 47 horse john deere front end loader wanted

 

Had two. Depends on how much you are off road, building fence it took about 5 years and you can see the cab cracking under the corner of the windshield on both sides with the hood open, I was told it was because of my bed. Never bothered anything else. I would do it again.
