Default What exhaust is best?

OK. I am searching, I am sure this has been asked multiple times.

But, I just want to know what exhaust setup is best for a stock '05 5.9L.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

It is for my son's truck. (16 y/o) He wants better sound, but not so loud he will get a ticket. He thinks he wants a stack. I am not too sure about that, myself. But, it is his truck. I just want him to make an informed decision. His tailpipe, after the muffler, fell off and we need to do something. Not bad for 333,6?? miles.

any old turbo back depends what size he wants etc. , I have a 3 inch down pipe, to a 4 inch back with a muffler and sounds pretty good. If he doesn't want loud don't do a stack their obnoxious drone in the cab is annoying my. 02

thank you. He does want loud. He just doesn't want the cops harassing him or neighbors complaining. He wants a stack, because he thinks they are cool. But, he also has a topper and doesn't want it filled with soot when he needs to use it.

Sounds good, thanks. I guess, if it's too loud, we can always add a muffler.

Straight piping won't cause any problems? Do these things have an O2 sensor, or anything else that will throw a code? I could crawl under there and look, but right now it is just tooo hot outside. I will look tomorrow.

Like Luke, 5" with jut a six inch tip. Stacks are loud as hell in the cab. Yes they look good, but I'm not worth it on a daily driver.

If he doesn't want it loud then get a muffled system. A 5" straight is going to be loud outside and inside, not near the noise stacks make, but it is still loud. This is just my opinion but straight piped CR's sound like shat!

If you want some tone without being to loud.. I'd look into mprb 4" turbo back with their performance muffler.. I know a lot of guys with it and they love it.. 5 inch turbo back striaght pipe will be to loud, a buddy of mine has it on his 07 5.9 cr and you can hear him coming from like 5 block away

IMO 4'' MBRP turbo back, if he wants better sound without being too loud. I had that setup on my truck before I opt'd out for the 5" turbo back. The 5" turbo back is loud, but nothing compared to stacks or a straight pipe. I agree with H.R.D, a straight pipe sounds terrible on CR trucks.

Thanks, guys. He already wanted a MBRP. They seem to be quite a bit more expensive, though. I was kinda leaning toward a 4" turbo-back diamond eye, with muffler. Luke gave me a good quote on an expandit. But, I don't know anything about them. He said that is what he has on his truck. The factory one lasted this long. I'm sure this will be the only one he needs to ever buy for this truck. I just want to get a good one. But, I don't want to spend $400, either.
