I dont think I have any pictures of the wastegate... It just needs to be shortened. There is a jam nut at the end of the rod, loosen it and then shorten the rod.
Two ways to do this, you can remove the rod from the wastegate itself, and then its hard to hook back up... Or you can use a pair of small vice grips to grab the rod and turn it (kinda getto, but much easier) |
What's the deal with info I've read on other sites about people disconnecting the red vacuum tube from the actuator to increase boost and spool up quicker? Is that a safe thing to do?
|
You can do that, but if the wastegate is loose to begin with it will not help. Need to get it tightened and then go from there.
I used to run one of these when I was running a 38R... Very easy to adjust! http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=875 A 1/2" drive and an extention and you can adjust your wastegate in seconds! |
Is it bad to disconnect the vacuum actuator?
|
not really... If your building too much back pressure it should open anyway, but if the wastegate is too loose, unplugging it will do nothing.
|
I got the wastegate tightened up, I cleaned my air filter and put in a new fuel filter and now the turbo is boosting up to 25-26 psi at WOT. Amazing, I should be more diligent about cleaning the filters!
Is that more like what it should be with stock injectors? |
Sounds about right for 3000' or so elevation.
|
So I assume the pressure will go down the higher the elevation since the air gets thinner...I live at 2200 and some change, so if 25-26 psi @ 3000 ft is a rough gauge, should it be more than that?
What kind of boost would it roughly produce with 160 cc single shots? Also, I thoroughly checked all the hoses and fittings, and to the best of my abilities I cannot find any leaks...Might I have some injector problems? |
im no diesel expert (actually far from it, but i am learning) but if you are supposed to be making a lot more boost then you are then it has to be leaking somewhere. i wish i could remember where i read asbout testing the up pipe connectors and such with a water/soap solution... something if you spray the couplings and see bubbles you found your leak..
|
thats about right with just a superchip as your tuning, wait for your 6 pos. to get there then let know what it does
