So I am looking nat cummins diesels but have been avoiding the VP44 because of all of the woe which accompanies it. I want the run straight vegetable oil in it. Does anyone have experience with this? I figured this would be the place to ask guys abou their pumps since you all have em. It would be great if you would just tell me about your experiences and what you think about the pump. Also how much is it to get e new one? Also what should be done to get the most life out of a stock configuration (aftermarket lifter?)? Also were there any changes to the pump between 98.5 and 02 because I have heard the 01-02's were improved?

hey yall i got a 99 24 valve and i was on you tube and found this pump called the monster vp44 a friend of mine also told me about this. Where can i find these and could any body tell me a ball park price

If the shuttle sticks and the diaphragm stretches you can get a loppy idle which some claim is bad injectors (too big, etc.). This is not the case. The pump even over time - fed with a constant 15 psi can just simply wear out. Mine is like that on occasion.

I just switched out a hotrodded VP and replaced with stock. If you are not pushing over 550HP or so, the hotrod won't be doing much but rolling lots of coal and heating up your EGTs...

If you are running over 550 - 585 HP, then this is when to consider an hotrodded VP.

Maybe this comment caught me wrong, maybe i'm having a bad day but this is a load of bull.
The hot rod pump is a SO Pump head, HO Cam and HO computer....THEY MAKE NO POWER...
If your shooting for over 600 RWHP you better leave that SO on the truck....
A monster pump and hotrod pump are not the same thing.

What are the differences between a hot rod and monster? I was not happy with the longevity of the last unit at all with was "hot rodded". It was not a monster pump. :pca1::pca1::pca1:

I suggest putting that $500-1000 more for a hotrod pump and getting an SO pump. It will fuel you to 600-650HP

I agree the hot rod is only if you are pushing 550 hp or over otherwise is pointless
