Howdy, im fairly new to modifying diesels, im 17, but have been around/workin on motors for as long as i can remeber, but i was under the hood of my 97 stroker, f-250HD, and saw somethin that looked like a wastegate on the bottom of the turbo, couldnt see the actuator, but it sure looked like a valve on the bottom of my turbo....but i saw
"If your talking about your 96, you don't have a wastegate..." so im not sure what i saw.... |
That is a warm-up valve. It restricts the exhaust when the engine is cold to help warm it up.

Its called the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve or EBPV... It will close when the oil and air temps meet the PCM's requirments to put more load on the motor and help it warm up... It makes a cheap exhaust brake as well. It is not a wastegate. |
