wastegate

how good or bad of an idea is it to clamp off the wastegate hose on these? cus i just happened to see the wastegate sitting all by it's lonesome yesterday and was like hmmmm

95powersmoker 01-21-2011 07:55 PM

If your talking about your 96, you don't have a wastegate...

Describe what you were looking at.

big willy 01-21-2011 08:13 PM

what im looking at looks exactly like a waste gate

95powersmoker 01-21-2011 08:15 PM

I wonder if the previous owner upgraded to a SuperDuty set up. Can you get a picture??

big willy 01-21-2011 08:16 PM

i'll go take a picture of it

95powersmoker 01-21-2011 08:28 PM

Definitely not a waste gate.

big willy 01-21-2011 08:34 PM

well what is it then the last thing i saw that remotely looked like that was a wastegate i was thinking it wasn't since it is where it is but then again it looked like one to me

Horns 01-21-2011 08:42 PM

That's nothing like a waste gate.

big willy 01-21-2011 11:36 PM

i'll think about it i haven't completely decided if i wanna change back to a dodge or not

95powersmoker 01-22-2011 12:11 AM

Keep the Ford.

What are you looking for in a truck? What do you use it for?

big willy 01-22-2011 02:26 AM

well i can use this truck for pretty much anything i'd want to do but it's just something about the 12v is calling my name it may have something to do with im very comfortable with those trucks and i've had really good luck with the one i had

Howdy, im fairly new to modifying diesels, im 17, but have been around/workin on motors for as long as i can remeber, but i was under the hood of my 97 stroker, f-250HD, and saw somethin that looked like a wastegate on the bottom of the turbo, couldnt see the actuator, but it sure looked like a valve on the bottom of my turbo....but i saw

"If your talking about your 96, you don't have a wastegate..."

so im not sure what i saw....

twinboys 04-12-2011 06:53 AM

That is a warm-up valve. It restricts the exhaust when the engine is cold to help warm it up.

Its called the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve or EBPV... It will close when the oil and air temps meet the PCM's requirments to put more load on the motor and help it warm up...

It makes a cheap exhaust brake as well.

It is not a wastegate.

chiefton17 04-12-2011 09:15 PM

Thanks :)
It also creates a dead spot in the throttle........
It's really annoying, is there any way to make it go away?

95powersmoker 04-12-2011 09:18 PM

Sure thing... Unplug the connector right under the intake side of the turbo.

chiefton17 04-12-2011 09:25 PM

Awesome, what is the downside of that?

95powersmoker 04-12-2011 09:43 PM

Just won't have a functioning EBPV.

Let your truck warm up properly and it will not turn on... Or clean your exhaust back pressure sensor tube.

chiefton17 04-12-2011 10:18 PM

well, i let my truck run for 5-10 min in the driveway, and i live in alaska, so after driving for 20 min into town, the truck is finally warmed up enough for the EBPV to disengage and the dead spot to go away, which seems ecessivly long........
I have the clutch fan removed from the engine as well
with the sensor unplugged will it hurt my engine at all?

95powersmoker 04-12-2011 10:20 PM

The reason it is there is to aid in warmups... So you will lose that function.

It won't hurt anything.

chiefton17 04-13-2011 09:19 PM

thanks for the info :)

Travistrent1993 05-23-2011 12:11 AM

How do you change the EBPV into a jake brake? I'm putting a chip on my truck with high idle so I don't think Ill need it?

And does anybody know why our trucks don't idle up when it's cold like the 2nd gen strokers?
They might but I don't think mine has ever done it

?
