Trying to let my 6.7 breath....
 

Need some advice, I tried to look but had no luck finding a thread about air intakes for the 07.5-12 6.7. I've already decided on boost tubes (4") and intake horn (h&s) thinking about heat grid delete. Thoughts?

If your in a climate that allows you to remove it then there is no harm in doing so. I don't here any good or bad either way on the removal though. I saw pictures on the web of the parts and it's clearly a larger and smoother opening without the grid but they never claim any improvement as far as I could tell. Also I'm guessing that you have already done the deletes?

Yep. Full deletes. And I am in ak. But I have never been very happy with the throttle and they have an after market tb with heat grid in it. Factory hookups to

The heat grid is only for emissions, it will not affect your cold starting ability.

The stock air filter is very good. Get rd of the silencer, grid, EGR and DPF.
Changing the air filter will only increase how much dirt your engine eats, not performance.

Only for emissions?? I dont beleive thats right. Because if it was for emissions only when i start my truck the grid heater light would come on everytime i started it. It dont only when the temps are i would say 55 or below give or take. On cold mornings after the truck has warmed up and if it dont cool off it doesnt come on. (because its warm-- not cold) The grid heater from what i have seen takes place of glow plugs like the psd has. It is for cold starts in lower temps. It heats the air entering the intake and into the cylinders to help the start.

You are 100% wright sir! I knew this but wasn't going to start anything. I'm mainly looking at the air intake. Talked to a few people and I like the s&b. Seems to be the best quality at the best price. Plus the washable filter vs. the oem at 50$ a wack. Thanks for the input. I'll report back with a mpg update after mods.

i have read where the grid heater restricts air from the rear cylinders. im running afe i love it. i just run an outerwear on it. i just wraped panty hose around it helps make the cleaning easier. only thing i wish is i would have got a dry filter.

i have started my 08 in pretty cold weather without using the grid heater but the truck will miss fire pretty bad. it would have to be cold before it would not start. if you are in warmer climate, i dont think you would have any trouble. :hellox:

i started mine -25 and it choked and puked sounded awful. i dont think it would have started with out the heater.
