are they reliable

I know this question is probablylike beating a dead horse to you guys but i am curious as to how reliable the 6.7 motor is compared to the 5.9. I just bought my 2012 amonth ago and would really like to do the deletes on it. My dealer told me i would loose my warranty on motor/tranny and obviously the emissions crap. But i would still be covered as far as the rest of the truck goes. I am new to the 6.7 and to be honest i was against them for years but when trading in my 06 lbz duramax i just wasnt impressed with the new gm. But anyways if it was an old 5.9 common rail i wouldnt think twice i would start throwing aftermarket parts at it and not even think twice. But i am not familiarwith the 6.7 at all. That and now that it already has the g56 out of it down at the dealer. So my question once the deletes are done is this a reliable setup. I dont have any interest in actually adding power. Is there any way to do the deletes on a 2012 without the possibility of turning up the fuel and without check engine lights. Any info and help will be greatly appreciated

I like em

I have an 07 6.7 with a TSP MP-8 that has been on the truck since a month after I bought it in 07. I did a delete pipe a couple years ago and got a check engine light. I fixed it with a sim that I got instructions for from this site and it has been running perfect ever since. I get great mileage and tons of power with pretty little invested. I have a 2011 I got last year and I am getting ready to do some stuff here real soon. I love the engine it's a cummins so it the best in my opinion. I am not 100% on this but the 6.7 is basically a 5.9 just more c.i. and some tweaks here and there for the increase in fuel for c.i. I had concerns with it in 07 when new and I had to go thru the learning phase with recalls etc. but, I love it!! and am glad I got the first one. So do what you want and enjoy it!!! Just my .02

I talked to my closest shop to me, advanced diesel tecnology, and from what i gathered from Doug they kinda sufer from some of the same minor problems the early comon rails( basically an casional injector or head gasket issue) but all and all just as reliable as a 5.9. He even mentioned one ran a retty healthy tune all its life and finally had a head gasket issue at 315,xxx miles

im on my 3rd head gaskets and im at 84k not trying to scare you the 6.7s ar known for the head gasket failure but if you just do the deletes and dont crank it up on high tunes you will prolly be ok if you want to turn it up i would say get studs asap i love my 6.7 it runs great never left me stranded you will be happy :c:

I love my 08. Done very few mods. Always reliable. Gets 18.5 mpg and about 3 months after bringing home from dealer it pulled about 60k lbs of tractor trailer out of my then new yard. Going on 78k miles now without issues.

i had two 08s with minimal issues, just got a 11 i did the deletes right away and put in the tuner seriously the week i got it. had a small issue put it back to stock dealer fixed it ripped all the crap back out and as soon as i get my clutch in it should be $$. dont be afraid of em every brand has issues and this is by far the best motor in a pickup imo

The thing that has me nervous like said in another pos is at 1500 miles it is sitting at thedealer with the trany out due to 5th gear. I havent really talkd to them yet to get the whole story but they had to order some sort of new gear for 5th. Supposed to be done tomorrow or monday at the latest.....

But thats a tranny issue. dodge has had problems with the tranny forever the motor is a good one. im putting in a new clutch at 4k i could probly limp it for a while but i cant afford to break down when im busy so im payin the 1700 to fix the weak link. it sucks but thats how it is i figure i could have got a different brand but they all have issues and i bought the truck for the motor figure i can deal with the rest.

i know about 8 or 10 ppl from yrs ranging from 92-11 and we al have pretty good luck with ours minus the junk clutch my 08 i used to beat the hell out of it cram the gears as fast as i could cram them no probs at 84k the others are all tow rigs and the 11 is just a dd

double ought 02-19-2012 01:01 AM

im not saying that they wont hold up if you run them stock or on a mild tune, it just seems like if you are going to have an issue that will be it i have run trucks stock or with a light tune with no issues the 2011 i just got is my 6th cummins since 04 i only have had 2 trans issues out of all 6 and they were after running them on high power tunes.
