New ram 3500

ok i got a question on the new ram 3500. i was reading this months issue of "diesel world 09/11" and they stated the rated towing capacities of the truck. 6.7L 6spd manual is rated for 14,050lbs(seems low) and the 6.7L 6spd auto is rated for 22,700(and even the payload is 80lbs different for auto). wow thats a difference of 8650lbs. why is there such a big difference? in my experience manual is the way to go. is it the clutch? maybe the stocker cant hold up? any and all input would be great. thanks

believe it or not the auto is stronger than the clutch in the stock form. i been a standard man all my life but the auto is a good piece. i got over 100k on mine and still towing strong. of course you can put a aftermarket clutch in them though:hellox:

i got the manual in my 04, and like on the show "top gear" will pull a house off the foundation.

the dual mass flywheel clutch in the g-56 wont hardly stand stock hp. without sliping.

I saw this too. Its nice to see that dodge has an auto that works well but I like to row my own gears. On a side note, Dodge is now the only fullsize truck maker offering a manual transmission in its 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. Thats sad, very ,very sad. :w:

o ya it is very sad. it actually makes me kinda sick knowing that people cant drive what used to be called a "standard". and it seems whenever i show my truck to some one they get all giddy thats its a manual and automatically wish they had it. come on dodge get your head out of your sphincter and make it work!!!

So I guess I'm an exception then? 137k on the stocker and tow all the time along with maxing gvw every day. :humm:

I think the problem with the new trucks is they wont put a clutch in that will handle it. They could put a double disk in them and it would still be cheaper than the autos. People do that to me too. They always say "its like riding in a real truck". Really? Just because I row my gears? Ive had diesel guys come up and ask me why when i got on it hard there was breaks in the smoke. Are you serious? Cause i have to shift! Then I get " well an auto is faster than a stick". I never got my truck to race. ITS A 7k lb TRUCK!!!! I know im only 24 but kids my age really piss me off. Big lifts, shiny wheels, stacks, and automatics. Thats whats "cool". Oh, and blow smoke everywhere even when your just driving. Learn how to tune your truck. OK im done :bat:.

Captain I think what the other gentelmen was saying is that past the stock hp the stock flywheel/clutch arent happy. With the H&S Mini maxx on my 6.7, the clutch is fine aslong as I stay on the first or second setting. Mine has 131k miles. :c:

ya thats what hes meaning over stock hp i smoked my stocker at 20k then smoked my single south bend at 50k and installed south bend double disk but i used to drive mine like a stock car im sure if somebody drove it like there meant to be driven you would be ok

you know what CUSTOM your right, 7k trucks are hard to race, but i do beleave auto is faster but i bought my truck to get work done. not drag it at the strip, plus a stick makes it easier to fill up the cab of the prius with coal that is pissin me off!!!!
