Stock 6.7 clutch slip?

Completely stock '08 6.7 3500 4x4 (60,000 miles) pulling horse trailer went to pass on the interstate and clucht wouldn't grab at all and check engine light came on.

Has any1 else experienced this??

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-09-2010 03:48 AM

Ive sold a many of clutches to people in your shoes. The stock clutch just can't handle the power a stock cummins puts out while trying to tow.

If you have any questions give me a call

mfolsomblueD 03-09-2010 06:10 AM

Yelp i went to a dealer and got in a brand new 09 and drove it and slipped the heck outa the clutch when i tried to shift it half way quick truck had 45 miles on it

Diesel Dummy 03-09-2010 07:16 AM

60K is about the limit on a stock clutch in a stock truck, just a bad design all together, give us a call if we can get you in a reliable long lasting clutch.

You must be driving it like a Grandma lol lol

Red_Rattler 03-09-2010 06:55 PM

Mmmmm nope, she turns the tires nicely and eats random rice on the road

brk126 03-09-2010 07:30 PM

no the 6.7's have a dual mass flywheel thats the prob:tu:

BLACK RHINO 03-09-2010 08:19 PM

How many of the different say 500-600hp 800-1000FTLBS TRQ, Units replace the factory fly wheel??? Have seen A few. And have heard that some of them are far from smooth? Anyone really like theirs??

Rhino.

1SlowCTD 03-09-2010 09:36 PM

i dont know an aftermarket company that utilizes the junk dual mass fly wheels other than (centerforce or zoom). Ford went away from them for a reason and the G56 clutches dont hold for crap. They are a very common fail and its irritating that that design was pickup up outta the scrap bin.

BLACK RHINO 03-09-2010 09:48 PM

1SlowCTD.. Good to know.. So what would be your personal recommendation for A strong, smooth one? Thanks.

Rhino.

Sorry. LUKE how has your feed back been on them VAL AIR units been for the 09 Cummins. I am babyin my factory one along here for A month or two. But this sucker is headin out the door ASAP. Thanks.

The new Valair Nodular Sprung Hub Dual Disc's are going great. Much better than the Solid Hub Design.

Rollin Smoke Diesel 03-14-2010 01:01 PM

Sadly, this is a very common problem with the dual mass setup. The springs have a tendency to wear rather quickly. We have seen trucks with as little as 10k needing a new clutch and with the addition of a tuner and other go fast goodies it will only enhance the slipping.

The South Bend SDD series have been great sellers, worth taking a look at if you are having issues.

my09cummins 03-14-2010 07:39 PM

I run the south bend dual disc in my 09, i love it, at first it shifted kinda rough but after awhile it gets smoother, and you can't beat james's prices at rsd :woot2:

KoalRolr 03-15-2010 02:00 PM

I was thinking about maybe a Valair single disc full ceramic??

Thats what i run in my 12v for now and so far its good but haven't done any major launches yet either.

my09cummins 03-16-2010 03:01 PM

I really haven't heard anything bad about valair, but everyone in my area is runnin southbend so i haven't really heard much about them at all. But i would recommend that if you plan on goin with a lot more upgrades, go with a dual disc. If you are just gonna do a few small upgrades here and there a big single will probably work just fine

KoalRolr 03-16-2010 05:46 PM

I'll pry wait and get the dd then i'll start with the upgrades. :tu: Does your XRT make much smoke out of the 6.7 or no?

my09cummins 03-17-2010 01:45 PM

it smokes A LOT on the 175 or 225 tune, i run it on the 120 and it smokes a little but not nearly as much as the higher two

KoalRolr 03-18-2010 11:54 AM

Really?? What kinda boost do you get out of your 6.7? just curious to see what there capable of.

my09cummins 03-18-2010 06:02 PM

In wyoming (high altitude) i see a max of about 35, but i've heard of people gettin higher at lower elevation.

KoalRolr 03-18-2010 06:33 PM

Thats not bad. Down here in NM where i'm at my elevation is about 4800 so I bet i'll pry be right around 35 also. My 6.7 only gets like 13mpg empty. Would the XRT help that?

my09cummins 03-18-2010 11:34 PM

Well break in has a lot to do with that too, i have 50k on mine, the xrt helped my fuel milage enormously, i haven't hand calculated it, but my overhead shows 24 mpg at 75 mph, in town it shows 20! But, just cause it does that good with mine, doesn't mean it'll do the same with yours, all trucks act different. But i love my xrt, if your lookin at one my opinion is go for it! the guys at h&s are top notch, they'll help ya out with anything, plus james from rsd called me the other day sayin they lowered the prices 5%! :tu:

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-19-2010 07:31 AM

Yup.... the XRT and Black Maxx are at a better price right now :rocking:

Yes, with the tuner and DPF removed, mileage increases big time. Our usual increase is anywhere from 3 to 6 mpgs depending on location and driving habits.

KoalRolr 03-19-2010 09:34 AM

Awesome thanx guys soon as I get the funds saved up i'll be getting in touch with you guys for sure.

1SlowCTD 03-19-2010 07:47 PM

The only way i would go on a G56 is a dual disc by either ValAir or South Bend but i tend to lean towards the better price of ValAir. As said above the Black Maxx and the XRT are the best bang for your buck when it comes to the dodges nowadays.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-19-2010 08:54 PM

If your not into sled pulling id recommend the Valair Nodular Sprung Hub Dual Disc :rocking:

KoalRolr 03-20-2010 11:39 AM

Well soon as I get it set up with twins and everything like I want i'll sledpull as much as possible

my09cummins 03-20-2010 12:28 PM

Ha if you're gonna get too crazy, triple disc might not be outa the question haha

KoalRolr 03-21-2010 09:27 PM

LOL thats very true also. But how would a triple disc work as far as light towing and daily driving??

my09cummins 03-21-2010 10:29 PM

um depends i think. My friend here runs a triple disc around town on his 800+ hp truck, and its pretty smooth, he used his same upgraded hydos from his dual disc, not sure if that helps or not but he says his pedal pressure isn't too much more than the dual disc was

jdog78 06-27-2010 02:14 PM
