Which Intake? Banks or S&B
I am having trouble deciding which intake to buy. I am leaning towards S&B, people seem to like them better. What do you guys think?
I bought a AFE PRO DRY 7 drop-in AIRFILTER:tu: I think I only paid $57
S&B, AFE, or AEM would be my only choices, banks wouldn't even be an option
I dont want AFE, i have heard that they throw codes
None are an improvement over the stock system.
S&B ALL THE WAY:tu:
well never have heard of the AFE throwing a code, I'd go with an S&B then if i were you, banks gets his filters from S&B and i'm pretty sure they make the intake too

I run the S & B in my 2010 6.4 I noticed a litle more response and it got a little louder.
Yeah, anyone who says AFE's throw codes is an idiot. We have them on both of our 6.4's.. just get it, neither my 6.4 or dads throws codes. Enjoy!

On the 7.3, anything is an improvement over that tiny thing. On the 6.4, S&B doesn't even remotely hold a candle to the stock filter in airflow or filtering efficiency.

STOCK AIR FILTER is $90 & you throw it away, AFE PRO DRY 7 is reuseable & only $57:yeah:
Vs the factory filter you get a filter that filters better than ANY other type of filter on the market, can hold over a POUND of dirt before becoming restrictive, only needs 1 minute to swap in a new one every year or two and, FYI, it only costs $76. Yeah...where was AFE's advantage again? |

Okay.....so for that $57 you get poop quality filtering, no additional airflow and frequent maintenance to keep it from becoming very restrictive.

stock is good, aftermarket is just fine, a company like AFE isn't going to put out garbage I'll trust them any day of the week, if I were buying a complete aftermarket intake it would be an AFE or S&B in that order
s&b and afe are both good choices!:tu:
I like K an N's on all my trucks make it louder and good power gain dunno bought the 6.4 though
Have you looked at the BD with the super scoop intake
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- BD Diesel 1041080 Super Scoop Intake Kit for 08-up Ford 6.4L Powerstroke sry forgot to add the link |
I like the BD setup but do they offer a carbon fiber looking replacement vent for the other side? i like my stuff to match, not that I have a 6.4, but i want one
Not that i know of

sorry all knowing god of diesel performance, I'm gonna go ahead and trust AFE when there is people using their filters on engines making well over 1000hp, and if someone wants to change their intake it's their prerogative he didn't ask the question what intake should i get? banks or S&B? or should i leave it stock? he simply asked whether he should get a banks of S&B

thank you to whomever banned him

Have had Banks installed for 12,000 miles. Has never thrown a code. Installation took 20 minutes.
so if the stock filter is so great why does everyone change it out?
I read in last months Diesel power that the stock filters were just as good or better than a aftermarket filter, and when a little dirty, actually filter better than a brand new filter. The HP loss was maybe 1 hp over having a brand new filter installed.
Diesel power said the stock filters can last up to 50,000 miles before actually needing changed. Its the small particles that get into the turbo that cause damage. People think because they see a little dirt on the filter that it needs changed out, but in fact its actually filtering better than a new one. Let that stock filter go for a few thousand miles and it will filter the microscopic particles better and thus keeping the small particles out of the turbo and making your engine live longer. Get some oil filter magnets for the oil filter and a magnetic drain plug and you engine will live a long long time. Dont believe the hype, these aftermarket companies stay in business because of crafty advertising. :c: |
Any ideas on a good performance exhaust for my 2009 f-250 6.4.

I run an s&b stage 2 on my cummins and I love it there was a big difference in air flow but the stock one was pretty dirty when i changed it and the s&b adds a better look to your engine than the stock filter box.:tu:

i just replaced my stock intake with an s&b cold air intake and there was a big difference. there is only a couple hundred miles on it but with the new intake and my new five inch exhaust my mpgs went from 12-13 to a solid 21. sounds crazy i couldnt believe the numbers myself when i went to fuel up.
