DPF DELETE WARNING

As you all know, removing the particulate filter and catalytic converter is tampering with emissions equipment and violation of federal law.

Ford has found a loophole in the law that allows them to CANCEL YOUR DIESEL ENGINE WARRANTY if the emissions system has been found to be tampered with. A fellow dealership technician has a letter from Ford related to this, I will see if I can get a copy of it.

Remember - there are comprehensive monitors that count DPF regen cycles and other data related to the emissions system.

I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade, this is just for information so you guys can take the necessary steps to protect your warranty.

Up until this point, a tuner or aftermarket part that has been found to cause a failure will result in the repair being retail and you having to pay for it. This letter shows NO MERCY towards warranty cancellation if you tamper with the emissions system.

From what I have learned, if you were to get a warranty denial based on aftermarket components, and take it to court, Ford will basically bow down and pay the claim as it's really not worth their time and money to fight it in court. I have not seen this policy in action, but it is something to keep in mind. However, the DPF removal does not fall under this policy since it is a violation of federal law.

This is merely for information - don't shoot the messenger.

Just another reason why I will never buy a brand new truck.

At the very least, find yourself a warranty friendly technician,:w2: and pray that Ford doesn't send an inspector to look at it should there be a catastrophic failure.

With all that said, does that mean its only the Engine warranty that is cancelled? or does this apply to the whole truck?
All that I have heard on the forum so far is its costing the whole warranty to put in the DPF delete and tuner the engine.

Maybe some technicians can help me out before I come back state side and start looking for my next truck.

thanks in advance.

AFAIK - Powertrain and Emissions coverage will be cancelled.

The basic warranty (3/36) will likely still apply, just not on the powertrain components.

MR. HILLBILLY.

Your tag or profile says 23+ mpg with 6.4Liter 2008? My question is How the f@#$ do you get 23 mpg. At 70 mph With Hypertech tuner I get 13.5mpg prior to tuner 11.5mpg. I drive roughly 4500 miles a month. 23mpg would save my butt, 18mpg would be an erotic moment.

Driving habits, fuel, tuner, cetabne boost, and weather. It's dropped off to around 19.5 with the heat we're having here lately.
