intercooler??

what kind of intercooler can i get for a 94 6.5 fairly cheap or is there no such thing in the world of intercoolers

Crazy 12-13-2010 01:36 PM

i got mean off e-bay

32"X12"X3" TURBO UNIVERSAL INTERCOOLER 3" PIPING SRT-4 - eBay (item 110621933844 end time Dec-14-10 13:16:27 PST)

and mounted it under truck

Woody35 12-13-2010 07:52 PM

you could swap in a cummins one but you got to relocate the radiator and other stuff so it would require some fabbing

Crazy 12-13-2010 08:38 PM

here some pics of set up

maybe this give you some kind of idea on doing set up

1939Dodge 12-13-2010 11:52 PM

Crazy, I like the ingenuity!

Luke, I have a cummins intercooler it is in fair condition if you want to give it a shot I will make you a good price. Personally I am going with an air/water intercooler to conserve space... but now that I see the way Luke did it I will have to think again.

luke22494 12-14-2010 07:32 PM

crazy i dont really like the idea of under the truck because the road isnt the only place i go but that is a nice setup:tu:

dodge please shoot me that price i might be able to make it work although im not sure

Crazy 12-14-2010 07:36 PM

no not the best place if you go off road

luke22494 12-14-2010 07:38 PM

not really and i cant really think of anywhere else to put it either

Crazy 12-14-2010 07:42 PM

i know guy he put on top motor at rear i can get some pics if want
but to me being under hood be to hot for it

luke22494 12-14-2010 07:43 PM

yes please get some pics if you dont mind i dont like the idea of it either

Crazy 12-14-2010 07:46 PM

ok gave few mins and have them for you

luke22494 12-14-2010 07:47 PM

ok thanks

I only could fine few pics on this setup

Think this ended up put hood scoop on and also added 2 fans

luke22494 12-14-2010 07:57 PM

thanks crazy thats not a bad setup but a hood scoop would have to go with it

Crazy 12-14-2010 08:00 PM

i don't think you get cool enough even with a scoop just to much hot air

luke22494 12-14-2010 08:03 PM

yea i think your right

prison 12-14-2010 08:05 PM

thats how subaru intercoolers are. under the hood with a scoop

Crazy 12-14-2010 08:08 PM

got any pics of scoop they using Prison

luke22494 12-14-2010 08:12 PM

yea i believe your right

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

sorry bout that last post i didnt see the page 2 button:argh:

1939Dodge 12-14-2010 09:12 PM

Use the setup like the one photographed only use an air/water intercooler not Air/Air and you should be ok, no scoop.

Hegel122 01-03-2011 04:13 PM

for the pics on the subaru intercooler just go to google and time in subaru wrx sti... its kinda like a little ram air scoop... they work really well... but would look kinda retarded on a truck

gmguy 03-03-2011 01:50 AM

crazy - I was wondering were the guy with the added inner coolers got there intake
I'm currently working on a trick water cooled inner cooler that is compact enough to fit
under the hood & that upper intake I seen in the pictures you have would make it easier-
let me know if you could

Farmboy 2.0 03-03-2011 04:22 PM

How about these guys?
Front Mount Intercooler

Woody35 03-03-2011 08:15 PM

i dont think a wngine mounted intercooler would do much unless it was water cooled. front mounted is the best

muderxtreme 03-07-2011 10:35 PM

crazy- where did you get that aftermarket intake plenium you used with the intercooler set up?

prison 03-07-2011 10:47 PM

i think subaru's might be. just a thought. might work. and if there was a hood scoop like the subaru or a ram air hood it'd be interesting to see. i think it may be a step forward. with this design its not blocking the radiator so you have full flow there and probably just as much air flow from the hood.

Crazy 03-08-2011 08:44 AM

here where got at thinking it was about $68.00

thanks for your information it's been very helpful, when I get my intercooler setup done
I'll post some pictures - it should be a very easy set up to install & really help w/performance

muderxtreme 03-09-2011 10:01 AM

That's a pretty good deal. I found what my next mod is gonna be. Thanks crazy

gmguy 03-09-2011 10:04 PM

crazy

i love this site. i have gotten more info from this site than i have from any other site
i've been part of:jump:

green6point5 09-30-2011 05:44 AM

im new here and this is my first diesel and this might be a dumb question to a few but but the top mount intercooler showed in the pics is air to air correct? so one tube gets hooked to turbo other to intake? if so my buddys got a stock top mount from an sti i could prob get dirt cheap

gmguy 10-04-2011 09:54 PM

the sti inner cooler isn't big enough to disapate the heat that is generated or flow the amount of air the turbo is producing - you would be better of building a cold air intake that would draw in outside air directly through fender vent or snorkel - good luck on your project - sorry for taking so long to reply had internet issues

muderxtreme 10-31-2011 11:32 AM

alright so i got an intercooler from a friend for dirt cheap. it was one of those i was at his house, saw and bought it without thinking. its off of an 03 ford ps. 3inch in/3inch out, 31in Long x 13in wide with a 3in thick core. its too wide to put underneath where a skid plate goes, the inlet/outlets hit the frame rails. its too narrow to put in the stack (between the rad and condenser) the radiator is too wide. i took the grill off to see if i could mount it in front of the condenser but no go without cutting the frame. i could do a top mount but it would stretch from the coolant resivor to the brake booster and i would need a big scoop. i really wanted to use it because it was so cheap and its huge but im out of ideas where to mount it. i could get a slimmer radiator but i dont want to sacrifice cooling efficiency. any ideas?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

sorry for the thread jack, i was thinking about what to post and didnt realize i was still on quick reply.

6chevy9 11-02-2011 04:59 PM

i like your set up crazy... but how do you check your oil now? lol. from the pics it looks like one of your tubes is in the way.

gmguy 11-03-2011 11:33 PM

maybe sell the inner cooler on craigslist or ebay & use the money to buy a smaller inner cooler that would fit behind the grille - I've seen the kits that mount them by the skid plate. but think about it. it's called a skid plate for a reason. once you get an inner cooler you can save money by getting the tubing & rubber couplers from a wrecking yard. you can cut & weld the tubes to fit. from factory or aftermarket the rubber couplers are very exspensive. good luck. sorry for taking so long to reply

tyler_s18 11-03-2011 11:57 PM

i think you could use a subaru intercooler with some work. it might not be the best but doable. i have a wrx and have had the ic off a few times and its pretty big. the sti is even bigger. a lot of the world rally championship rally cars use topmount ics so you can get them to cool! the subaru one is somewhat an odd set up. the one side has 2 intakes on the bottom and then one big outlet on the side. but if you use a front mount from a rice burner then mount it up top then put a hood scoop on and maby spray it with even washer fluid on a pressure switch and i bet it will be a very good upgrade!

gmguy 11-08-2011 11:00 PM

the sti inner cooler still isn't big enough to displace the amount of heat that is created & may not be able to flow enough air & act as a restriction. also were these coolers are mounted the back side is open for better air flow which you won't have with your pu engine compartment

Slim Whitey 12-14-2011 11:16 AM

Mudder:
A friend of mine mounted a 96 dodge ram intercooler in his 87 daytona. "Anything is possible" is his phrase.
I'll give him the measurements of yours and see where I could fit it on mine. we're going thru this same thing, no room for the fuggin thing.
actually, that is shorter than the ram intercooler. . .

there is no way a guy could run it in the fender above the splash guard eh? the stock intake is in there, I'm sure with some cutting you could plumb it in and get enough air to it.
Just a crazy idea I came up with in about 3 seconds. probably wouldn't work but it's an empty space. probably not a big enough empty space either.

blarg, lots of useless ideas. no good ones.

gmguy 12-15-2011 06:49 PM

anything is possible as long as you have the patients, time, resources to find parts. oh & of course the big thing $$$$$
