KOJO Tune Review

Well i finally got a reflashed ecm in this thing finally. I got a Kojo
tune from walking j designs. I just want to say he has great customer service and is good to talk with.

Well about the tune. I wanted more power obviosuly and it is certanily there. even with 3.42 gears and oversized tires when im turning and i punch it the tires will go up in smoke. more black smoke is also there for all those guys that like that. top end performance has also increased too. the turbo doesnt run out of breath as easily like it used to now that has some fuel to work with and more boost.

i also got my torque converter to lock up 5mph earlier so i can save some fuel when driving the roads near my house that are all mostly 45 mph. another thing about the torque converter is once its locked up there is so much more midrange torque i can just put a little pedal into it and the truck will accerlate a lot faster than before. i think its pretty neat when its accerlating fast and the engine is barely working.

some more tranny tuning i like is now when i lose traction in 2nd no more bogging of engine rpms. now just a quick downshift and back to the races. turbo whistle has increased and the sound the truck makes when at full throttle going up a steep hill is orgasmic.

only driven 120 miles with it so i dont have any fuel economy numbers but for only going 120 miles and how much abuse the truck got in those 120 miles the fuel gauge has suprising not moved as much as i thought. im going to have to pull about 4k pounds in two weeks so we will see how well it does towing. overall it is worth the money and the wait. any questions feel free to ask.

any chance you'll be able to strap to a dyno? It really seems like what the 6.5 world is missing is some real numbers and graphs of tune vs tune to really see how they stack up in the rpm ranges.

Glad KOJO Tune is getting good report i been thinking about getting my self i just didn't anyone haven yet. i sure like to know how it going act when towing. That what thinking about getting that for i pull 16,000lbs 5th wheel and next summer i be putting on about 10,000 to 15,000 miles traveling

dyno time locally is really expensive and diesel events near chicago never really happen except for county fair sled pulls so i doubt it unless a dyno event pops up around here and its somewhere close. Crazy the Kojo Tune is bascially a custom tune unlike heath's gle and gl4 which are the same for everybody so if you tell them they can make a tune better suiting for towing large loads. its also cheaper than heath which is a plus.

Thanks Woody35

i be check into for sure

towed that 4k load today. did very well. a lot more power and not a lot of downshifting even with the lower tcc speed

Crazy 10-31-2010 08:20 PM

Glad did good now gave me something think about. would like know what kind of EGT and boost you where running

Woody35 11-01-2010 11:17 AM

around 15 psi at full throttle egt was 1100 then at cruising about 4-5 psi with egts around 800

Crazy 11-09-2010 07:09 PM

so Woody35 how are tunes still happy with them think about calling tomorrow see what they do for me in towing

Woody35 11-10-2010 06:59 PM

super happy with it. my truck is actually fun to drive and i dont feel like i am dragging it when im driving, it has a lot of power which is nice sometimes driving in traffic. i can make those tiny holes in the other lane a lot easier. also when towing i dont have to redline just to keep up with traffic which is a plus

Crazy 11-10-2010 09:33 PM

that good i guess i be calling tomorrow thanks for the in put

Woody35 11-10-2010 10:21 PM

yours probably wont be as of a dramatic improvement as mine since your getting one designed for towing in mind but its defintely worth it. good customer service too ill add

Woody35 11-16-2010 07:38 PM

any updates?

Crazy 11-16-2010 07:46 PM

I haven call yet i got that dam code p0216 back it keep comming and going want get that fix before doing then tunes i guess going have put other IP on

2MuchJunk 02-20-2011 11:59 PM

Woody did you ever figure up how much of a fuel economy difference you are getting with the new ecm? I just bought a 94 1 ton and if your mpg's has improved I might want to go ahead and upgrade.

wpg6.5 02-21-2011 06:38 PM

how much different would the kojo be over the heath, would it be worth the change?

Woody35 02-21-2011 09:20 PM

my fuel economy went down because of winter diesel but its pretty much on par with last years winter diesel fuel economy. i get low to high 15's in the winter and in late april ill let you guys know what the summer diesel mpg will be. i would probably just keep the heath tune. probably not much difference

Crazy 02-21-2011 09:37 PM

i still wait for my tunes from Heath it been month now but not has fault i order walking J D i guest the cord puter got lost in the mail

Woody35 02-22-2011 10:09 PM

Crazy 02-23-2011 07:53 AM

vogt21r 05-01-2014 05:58 PM

I Ordered one in January and I'm still waiting. Trying to cancel, blocked my phone calls to Heath seems like a really strait up guy. I am gonna try that next

Daniel Leipart 05-01-2014 09:49 PM

I ordered one end of march, along with an ATT got the turbo the other day, waiting on the kojo, pat said he was waiting on the ECM's to come in and he got them the other day, It is tough trying to get ahold of him, guess he is busy, hopefully it will get moving soon

dieseltech 10-24-2018 10:27 PM

too bad this is a old post, once those clowns get your money, you can forget about customer service, Yea I got burned by the dirtbags at walking-J, I have a tune that I cant use as it is down right dangerous!, the truck revs up to redline at the slightest touch of the throttle, it will leave rubber just trying to creep up a hill. $400 down the drain and a month of lost work because the truck was down, bought a heath tune. that MAN stands behind his products. worked with me until it was perfect

Daniel Leipart 10-25-2018 06:41 AM

Ya the tune I got from them never was right, he never got back to me to fix it. I wish someone had warned me beforehand. I cant pull shit with it and it would drop me out of OD and put me into limp. took it out and put the factory in and works fine......
