Gauges, Tuner or Both?
I know the subject has been more than covered in the forums, but I just can't seem to get a straight answer from the guys at SCT. I want gauges in the truck, but I don't want to duplicate them if the SCT Livewire or TSX has them. I don't want to spend the extra cash on the TSX, so the real question at hand is "What options does the Livewire have for reading the engine parameters". Specifically looking at the big five, i.e. Fuel Press, EOT, ECT Trans Temp and Pyro. Not too concerned if I have to get a gauge set up in addition to the Livewire, just need to know which to buy.

I like the Edge CTS with EAS EGT probe (allows expandability). Use the SCT only to adjust my tuning files which is rarely done.

You can not read fuel pressure, but you can't with any of them. You can probably get an add on for it. For pyro you need to buy the probe separately.
The TSX is notoriously faulty, but they do have the iTSX out now for Ipad/Iphone/Itouch stuff, that might be worth looking into. I prefer stand-alone gauges with a handheld programmer. I don't get the monitors, it's just redundancy off of what the OBD port is already seeing. I'd like to have a "second opinion" if you will with my stand alone stuff, but to each their own with that. |
Instead of making my interior look more like a cockpit, I will be getting a Bully Dog Watch Dog. Up until it took a big giant crap on me, my Edge monitor took care of what I needed to watch.

So to make sure that I am getting this right, and on the cheap(er), going with the Livewire and then getting the pyro and fuel pressure as stand alone gauges, provides the option to get the other gauges later, but still gives me the monitoring that I need right now.

Getting the Edge CTS with EAS Pyro and Edge Fuel pressure sensor will do it all in one package. Might cost more but it's SO much easier to install.

Re: Gauges, Tuner or Both?
The CTS is a very nice unit. 4.3" color touch screen :)
