What?????? There are other diesel motors to buy??? WOW....I thought Ford was the only truck with a real diesel motor under the hood.

I would try to talk you out of a 6.0 like I would try to talk my daughter out of the porn industry.

Less head bolts-head gasket issues
Egr cooler -head gasket issues
My buddy's computer went twice couple grand a shot
Tranny isn't the strongest
Oil cooler has issues to, seen a few rear mains leaking too
Any major engine maintenance requires pulling the cab

Need I say more buy a ford 7.3,6.4,5.9 cummins or a Duramax. if you really want a sick liter they can be had alot cheaper. Seems to me the 06-07 6.0 had less issues but I wouldnt trust any of them.

And this, fellow 6 oh fans, would be the type of haters that give our rigs a bad name. ONE truck is NOT, I say again NOT representative of the entire run. I'm at 91K, average maintenance and I have ONLY seen a bad FICM and ONE stuck injector. I'm pretty happy with my truck, esp when I outpull Cummins and Duramax in competiton after they run their mouths about my "sickly 6.0".

Ya 91k that's convenient, my buddy's truck was fine until 100k when the power train was up. Believe dude I competitively drag race a ford. I love my fords and I did alot of research when I decided to get a diesel. I would have loved to find a 7.3 but I couldn't find one with a decent body not rotted. The 6.4 are still a little out of reach and the early ones had there issues as well. I personally don't like the dodges for the simple reason I don't like the rest of the truck besides the cummins mill.
I'm just speaking about my personal experiences with the 6.0 there are plenty of first hand testsitamates to back up my claim, as well as lawsuits.

I'm not sure if you work on your own truck but after you have to clog up your lift to change head gaskets because navistar and ford weren't on the same page maybe you'll change your mind.

And the Duramax will walk your six liter any day.

It's clear you know nothing about these trucks just by reading the line "tranny isn't the strongest".... not the strongest? Compared to what? The 5R110, stock for stock, is the best auto you can get in a 3/4-1ton diesel pickup, hands down. It will hold the most power. An allison can't hold more than ~100hp over stock. That's sad. Does the 6.0 have problems? Sure. Name any diesel pickup on the market and I'll tell you about the problems they have, because ALL of them have their issues. I also don't get why everything thinks pulling the cab is that big of a deal? Ford designed it to be moved out of the way easily so you have full access to everything. Even if I didn't pull the cab I could do any work on a 6.0 a LOT faster than on a D-max. How long does it take to swap 8 injectors on a duramax again? How about a turbo? I can swap a turbo on a 6.0 in under an hour and drink beer while doing it. What's the D-max time for a turbo swap?...

The 6.0 is not for everyone and they certainly do have issues, there is no doubt about it. However you can come to a fine place like this and see exactly what is going to happen and when, and take preventative steps to prevent it. There are fixes for all of the issues, and they're getting cheaper every year, which is good. The money I have to put into my truck right now to keep the headgaskets together doesn't even come close to what a d-max owner would have to spend to get a transmission to hold together. I especially like seeing the front tires pointing at each other when they're hooked to a trailer or sled too. That one gets me every time.

Pulling the cab does not suck. An amateur can do it in 2 hours, then you have NOTHING in the way. I could probably pull my cab and swap heads in less time it would take a D-max owner to just change injectors out. It's 4 bolts holding the cab on, then undo everything on the firewall and flop it on to the engine... it's not that terrible. A tech who does it all the time can do it in 45 minutes. It takes some guys that long to change their oil...

A d-max is fast, no doubt about it. Stock for stock a Dmax will probably win all day long, no argument there. The d-max trucks weigh a lot less than the Fords. Tune each, the D-max will definitely win, a few races... until the trans fails...

The D-max hasn't exactly been perfect either. Each and every year has had issues. LB7, don't even get me started there, they eat injectors more than a 6.0 ever will.


We can agree on one thing... Dodge trucks suck! It's a great motor wrapped up in a beer can. :c: I still like the D-max trucks too. I've said it before I would have got myself an LBZ if they came with a straight front axle.

BTW, why are you stirring the pot in the Power Stroke section if you're such die-hard Duramax fan, anyway? This is suppose to be a like minded help site, not a narrow minded hater site. I'm not in the D-max section spilling Mad Green flavored Hatorade on your opinions. :td:

All im saying is the average gearhead working out of his home garage pulling a cab is not an option. im more than happy with my allison and eventually when funds are there i will build it and throw a billet convertor at it. this should be had for 3-4 grand.

And if 3 headgaskets in 90 thousand miles is normal to you then i guess i dont know what im talking about because we are on a total diffrent page as far as what is expected of a light duty diesel truck.

Not try to start a war here just stating that if one of my close freinds asked me if a 6.0 would be a good truck to buy i would try to talk them out of it.:pca1::pca1:

You might want to check the entry date/time log before you start pointing the "you started it" finger at me pal! Talking someone out of buying ANYTHING like you "would try to talk my daughter out of porn" is bashing by any other words. Follow that up with "need I say more" and "fight's on!". Non offensive opinions could have been to site higher mpg, lighter truck, a better interior, or talk about how much smoother you think the torsion bars ride.

ok maybe my comment about the porn was a little harsh, my apoligies. Im sorry if i came off the wrong way. Again i was just conveying my personal expierences. maybe my buddy just has a basket case 6.0.

I just finished spending 2 grand and a weekend changing injectors and a vacuum pump out of my lb7 dmax. So i would also try to talk him out of buying a truck with my motor in it.

i guess what im getting at is they all have problems but i just see the cummins and dmax's as the lesser evil.:c::c::c::c:
