4'' down pipe

How hard is it to put a 4'' down pipe on a 05 6.0.

wildbill 03-09-2009 10:26 AM

Considering how cramped the engine compartment is, I'd say around a scale of 7??

ltr450 03-09-2009 10:30 AM

thanks

wildbill 03-09-2009 10:35 AM

No problem!:U:

BLACK_06POWERSTROKE 03-11-2009 09:20 PM

my advice is to not even try to take the stock down pipe out in one piece. get the sawzall out and you can have the swap made in 1 hour:rocking: its really not as bad as you would think it is.:c:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

forgot to add this part.... cut the pipe up as high as you can get it...

Zmann 03-12-2009 11:02 AM

does anyone have a link to the new downpipe?

BLACK_06POWERSTROKE 03-12-2009 09:47 PM

theres several vendors on this site that can hook you up :U: send one of them a PM

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-12-2009 09:48 PM

We have sold several of Magnaflows 4" exhaust systems with the 4" down pipe.

It will depend on your mechanical ability. Cutting the OEM out is the easiest way to get started. After that getting the turbo clamp on and tighted correctly on the new pipe is the second hardest part if you are by yourself.

hock6.0 03-14-2009 07:46 AM

when i installed my 4" down pipe it sucked big time, but that was due in part to the bends being off a bit.

Big Angry Hillbilly 03-14-2009 10:47 PM

Why do you need to cut the downpipe?

Take the trans crossmember out, and undo the clamp at the turbo. It'll just about fall out.

strokedout07 03-16-2009 12:51 AM

i put one in my truck definatly cut the stock one in half i had the entire old exhaust system off and the new one on in an hour

mainly because it takes 15 minutes to cut the stock pipe in half then you are ready to move on... where it would take 20 minutes just to take the crossmember out. then you still have to take the old downpipe out... and it doesnt juct fall right out. thats why i cut mine in half got tired of fighting the damn thing..and ill agree SAWZALLS RULE:rocking::c:

Only had about a thousand of 'em off...I guess practice makes perfect. Never really had any issue doing it this way, but different strokes for different folks, i guess

04redstroker 07-28-2009 07:42 PM

alot of people use a 3.5in dp. You may need to do some firwall modisication to keep it from vibrating, but its no big deal

Superstroker10 07-28-2009 09:32 PM

my bro has a 4inch on his. it was 2 piece, went in just fine.

04redstroker 07-29-2009 05:00 PM

i havent done mine yet. Just been told that some people have trouble with them rubbing against the firewall

ltr450 07-29-2009 05:26 PM

this post is old but thanks. put a 3.5 to 4 is went on with easy. but the truck is being traded in on a cummins because it over heats when pulling and leaking oil and only gets 14mpg and is a single cab f350 srw and it has no chip in it

I had no problem with it rubbing on the firewall. Putting the downpipe in is easier with two people.:ok1:

Installed the new MBRP exhaust that I got here from the DB and MBRP giveaway last month. No disrespect to Bigangryhillbilly;(as I do respect your opinions and valuable input), but I did remove the cross-member trying to save the original . Why ;I'm not sure as I have no plans of ever putting it back on. However even with the cross-member out of the way the downpipe still would not come out. I had to resort to the sawzall. I believe that if you have a lift available to you it would have fell right out. However I'm more of what You would consider a shadetree, or creeper mechanic with out a lift . So with that being said in this case I'm going to have to agree SAWZALLS RULE.:c::pals:

Pics of the old cut up exhaust? :tttt::tttt: Just kidding. It was raining and miserable out when I finished installing it today.:argh::ok1:

Weeks327 11-03-2009 11:51 AM

I have a four inch Magnaflow and it took less than thirty minutes to put the whole exaust on. Ive taken the 4" down pipe in and out a couple of times, no problem. The Magnaflow down pipe has a small flat spot in it where your up pipe is so it fits good..

Superstroker10 11-03-2009 01:17 PM

right on. me and my bro had to do the same thin with his DP.
GOtta love SAWZALL'S!

I was told by somebody I do not remember who but they told me that you lose somewhere around 60hp with a 4inch down pipe. I didn't think that was true but I figured I'd ask.

DieselDanBoy 11-04-2009 07:53 AM
