Turning Up A '93

Ok, im buying a bone stock '93 dually xcab 4x4 188k miles 5 speed getrag.

Its bone stock and i wanna turn it up as much as i can w/o having to replace a turbo. I will be installing a pyrometer so its ok if itll get a little warm w/the mods as i can keep an eye on it.

I will be putting a BHAF on it, either muffler delete or installing a 4" turbo back exhaust so breathing wont be a problem. Also installing a Frantz oil filter on it.

Spell it out to me as im new to 1st gen mods.

How do i turn up the pump, adjust timing, etc.

Please be as detailed as possible so i dont mess nothin up.

If possible tell me exactly how many turns on the star wheel, bla bla bla.

How many degrees should i advance the timing? And how do you measure the advance to know how many degrees you have moved it?

Does the fuel system need any upgrades like a 24 valve? or is it just as stout as a p-pumped truck?

Thanks in advance for your help, lookin forward to gettin some extra ponies outta this beast!!

any other tips or tricks will be appreciated

So ya got the beastly 93 huh? awesome! gotta get us some pictures! Id normally post a big long list, but I dont have enough time!!! I gotta go to work. I will post a link for u to look at for power, just remember the mods they list are a little on the very conservative side. like the smoke screw, drop it 2 turns, the star wheel~ bottom it, the fuel pin, pull it out and turn it full deep toward the front of the truck, fuel screw (the fun one) thats better explained later! Great score man, have fun with the new :sen:

I'm also interested in this, me and a buddy are trying to turn up his 89. Can you pull the starwheel and spring like gutting the afc in a p pump for some smoke? And which way does the fuel screw get turned?

Its my understanding that if y'all throw an intercooler on that thing you can get more HP than me cuz of the larger injectors that came on the non i/c trucks.

oh and guys, can i hit 400 hp w/a ve pump? Im just gonna turn it up a little for now, but eventually i want about 8-900 ft/lbs. so maybe 350-400hp. Am i gonna have to p-pump it or will the ve hold up?

one more question, do they make 3kgsks for the ve pump? or is this just a ppump thing? How do i get it to fuel all the way thru?

The definitive guide to VE pump adjustments:
http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/more_power/Power_ve.htm

How to adjust timing (the brief version):
http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...50&postcount=5

How to install the 3200 RPM or 4200 RPM SPRINGs, which only cost $20.00.
http://dens-site.net/Dodge_CTD/Gover...ing/index.html

The stock 12 mm head VE is good for a little less than 500 HP stock on #2 if you got custom injectors and twins; 14 mm heads for the pump are around and are used for 600+ HP, but there are only a dozen in the entire country and they are of dubious reliability.

400 HP on #2 only can be achieved with a stock injection pump tweaked for free and $400 POD injectors, coupled with the powertrain modifications necessary to take the power. And if you want to use the power for long before thermonuclear EGT's, you need to spend money on turbocharger modifications too.
