a full float dana 70 is pretty much a dana 70 i would assume. i could be mistaken but i belive theyre the same. but i also thought all 14 bolt chevy rear ends were the same and then i found out theyres different ones back in the day so who knows. i doubt theyre different enough to make it not work though, the swap is soo easy you could make it work

Hey Question......Does anyone know if the Dana 60 and Dana 70 full floaters use the same Disc brake conversion ? I have new brackets/rotors/calipers for a Dana 60 and don't want to buy Dana 70s if they are the same.

where do you get the pre made caliper brackets? i'm looking at the EGR convertion but it's like 600 bucks with no park brake and 800 with a part brake... i'm looking for something cheaper, like the k20 calipers.

Brakets
I had a set of Dana 60 rear brake conversion brackets that I used... The bolt pattern wont work and the spacing is wrong. So what I did is get the K20 calipers with brake lines and line holders from frame. Then you need the rotors but the ones I had from the front of the one I got them from had me scratching my head trying to find wheel studs to fit. The first one I did I pressed the studs in and well lets say i needed a new rotor after that. So i drilled the rotor just a hair larger then stock and they went right in with a hammer. Install rotor. Put caliper on with brakes pads in them and use an air chuck to tighten them in place were you want them.Attach the bracket with caliper pins. Mark them were you need to cut them and cut and weld them in place.Then weld tabs you took of the brake lines were you want them. Make 2 new rear brake lines and your done with that....Then go find yourself a DISC DISC of a newer DODGE I think 02 or newer. But beware you need to make new brake lines for the master also because the new is Bubble flair. Ya I know mines not on yet but I have it...I need to do it I have long brake pedal travel but I don't drive it much so it is on the back burner for now....
Make sure the calipers you get are identical to each other I got 2 different styles off 1 truck and tried to get a rebuild kit and couldn't figure what it came from...With help from looking at almost everyone they had at the parts store... I ended up buying a rebuilt one and changing the seals and o ring to mine...Believe me it was cheaper to by a rebuilt caliper then order a kit????? Yeah Crazy but anyways I can take pictures if you need something to go by.... OH YEAH Stock chrome dodge wheels will NOT fit over the spot were the drum was removed from..So if you put the rotor behind the axle end grind the hub down before you put it on. I did not use the eldo calipers....To much money.......I'm thinking a pinion brake of a sort.......... |
Anything like this for a spicer rear axle? Or would it be pretty much the same? Sorry for the dumb question just curious.... :humm:

They're not integrated... You have to drive out the wheel studs.

Master cylinder
Does anyone know if you need to change master cylinders for the drum to disc swap on a dodge w250? i have been having nothing but trouble with my rear discs they are 78 eldorado calipers.

i am a large truck mechanic, international has used a micro lock on medium duty trucks with hydralic brakes for years as a emergency brake. only difference is it generally sets a drum brake on the driveshaft yoke
