Looking for feedback, best injector?

Budgreen 09-09-2009 02:19 PM

one that works!

RSWORDS 09-09-2009 05:43 PM

What is it you are trying to do? Towing? Daily Driver? Racing?

What turbo and other mods are you running?

Smokem 09-09-2009 05:46 PM

Hey Bobby, I'm speaking from the manufacturing standpoint. I built one set of 6x0.016" for a non IC '89, let's just say they require more work than I can guarantee anyone puts in them.

RSWORDS 09-09-2009 06:39 PM

I know... I talked to you alot about getting a set but could not find any cores.

Smokem 09-09-2009 07:03 PM

Seems like there is a big gap in the injector line-up when it comes to 1st Gens, but I don't think I would be able to compare to anything offered in the 6-hole design either.

xzaq103 09-12-2009 10:49 PM

bump for ya Weston. Id like to hear this as well.

RSWORDS 09-13-2009 12:19 PM

Yeah Weston, whats your thoughts?

Smokem 09-14-2009 12:41 PM

Shortly, I will have more thoughts.

TTipsword 09-16-2009 08:21 PM

i got a few questions. can them 6x16's get pretty hot? also what is the price range on them?

RSWORDS 09-16-2009 08:29 PM

Seeing as how they are 300% over stock... yes they can get very hot. :D

TTipsword 09-16-2009 08:39 PM

ya i figured so. thanks

Most horsepower with a single charger was made with a 6X.016 injector. Most power running a compound set up was with a set of 6X.018's.

Seems anything bigger than that, and power was lost.

Smokem 09-18-2009 12:48 AM

Knowing what went into making the last set of 6x0.016" I did, I'm guessing many, many companies come up short. Let's just say I do not wish to another set, there is no point to use a 6-hole nozzle, Bosch quit using them for a reason.

Can you explain why there is no point using a 6 hole nozzle? I'm not saying your wrong, as you obviously know a LOT more than me about injectors, but do you think a 1st Gen would make the same power with a set of 5X.018's as a set of 6X.018's?

You've probably heard of Brian Block, and from what I gather, he tested a lot of injectors with 'Ol Yellow. He was the one that mentioned that 1st Gen's seemed to like 6 hole injectors more than anything else. It may just be the technology now is better than when he did his testing, but I am still curious as to your reasoning.

Again, not doubting you, just curious to learn.

RSWORDS 09-18-2009 09:55 AM

I am too... I'll be looking for another set here soon. I wonder if with that many holes the spray patterns interfer with each other. Like hit each other if you will.

Smokem 09-18-2009 10:20 AM

A 6-hole nozzle will make more power simply because it has one more injection orifice than the 5-hole. The term used to desribe the issue that caused Bosch to go away from the 6-hole design is "low lift needle deviation". This is common in VCO nozzles when compared to Sac nozzles, however, much more evident in the 6-hole vs the 5-hole. The set of 6x0.016" I did were very clean, and had no haze @ idle even with ~ 24° static advance, but it also took 6 hrs to do them.

jkidd 09-18-2009 10:51 AM

Thats a labor of love. sounds like a winner:U:

tower_ofpower 09-18-2009 08:17 PM

6 holes and no haze at idle... sounds like a winner to me. which arm do you prefer left or right?

Smokem 09-18-2009 10:59 PM

I will no longer do 6-hole nozzles, either they will be 5-hole VCO or 5-hole sac.

tower_ofpower 09-18-2009 11:27 PM

wasn't saying i was in the market; just sounds like it'd be something worth looking into... with time comes money, and like you've said lots of time, therefore lots of money

Smokem 09-18-2009 11:45 PM

6-hole nozzles are not worth the time, that is the point.

RSWORDS 09-19-2009 08:51 AM

Weston the guys setting records with these 1st gens beg to differ. I dont know why but the 6 holes perform WAY better then a 5 hole, most of us wont even waste time with a 5 hole. IF they take that much time to do then you should be paid for that time. If they run as clean as you say they do then people will pay a premium for them. My 6x16's smoke like crazy at idle. :D

Smokem 09-19-2009 10:59 AM

The intercooled piston is the same as the 180hp and 215hp P7100 piston, there is no reason for the 6-hole injector to be of a better design. On the dyno, all things constant, a 6-hole made ~ 11hp more than a 5-hole nozzle. If the public knew the things I know, they would be shocked.

RSWORDS 09-19-2009 11:15 AM

I think its more related to the pressures the VE puts out compared to the P-Pump. For you to get the same amount of fuel from a 5 hole injector as a 6 hole I dont belive the VE will atomize the fuel. I pumps dont fuel as hard as a P-Pump... We need HUGE injectors to make any power.

I by no means am saying that the 6 hole is an end all... Just no one has found a 5 hole that will make the power as a 6 hole in a VE pumped truck.

Smokem 09-19-2009 11:30 AM

I believe I have.

RSWORDS 09-19-2009 12:58 PM

That is awesome then! Like I said, not saying a 5 hole cant be better, just that so far it has not been better! If you say you have a 5 holer that performs like a 6 I belive you!

Smokem 09-19-2009 03:18 PM

It's not a VCO nozzle, just got off the phone with a few guys dynoing at Lloyd Mills' shop, seems there are a few differences that I didn't see making the numbers they did.

dieseljunky 09-19-2009 03:35 PM

whats a good injector to run with 4k gov springs... with a twin turbo set up?

RSWORDS 09-19-2009 05:09 PM

So far the big HP injectors are 6x16's for a single turbo and 6x18's for twins. Thats so far...

oklahoma_6speed 09-26-2009 12:00 AM

why no 5 hole big power then..i dont under stand. a bunch of guys making big power on 6 hole. but some say there is no way 5 hole is better... i just dont get it.:w2:

extrode hone will make them. 6x16 are 700 bucks.

they will build what you want.. not tell you what you need.

Any more thought's on this I'm looking to get a set of new injectors. PM if you need to. I'm going to buy a new set in the next couple of weeks. I'm looking for something bigger than the honed out 5x12's I'm running now.

I'm not very happy with them (They are not his, they came from another company) . He is going to run through them and fine tune if you will.
