Gauge Install

I will be getting my gauges in tomorrow and I have question. I have seen a couple ways to tap the exhaust manifold. One way is to have the truck running while drilling and tapping to keep the shavings out and another way is to have the truck off and start smaller and go bigger. When they did it when the truck was off they just used a shop vac to get the shavings out. Not sure a shop vac would have enough to get them all out and keep the shavings from going into the turbo. Just trying to find out which way is best to install this. Also with this, being that I have the after market aFe intake horn that is pre-tapped can I use one of the taps for the boost gauge or will I need to take out the boost bolt like I have been told.

Id go smaller to bigger on the drill but grease the mess out of the bits with some thing thick and sticky to catch all the shavings. and Im not sure about the boost. Goodluck

X2 on the grease! That should get all of the shavings :tu:

You can run your boost line off of your afe.

I'm a little iffy on using grease on the bit since they are designed to push shavings out and if any shavings did go into the manifold wouldn't it be harder to get them out if they are covered in grease.

Have the engine running when you drill the hole! The pressure will blow any bits out!

Agree. Drill it while its running.

You can still use two bits, but be aware it will cough the shavings out of the hole...make sure you where eye protection.
