Train Horns Done Differently
Picked up this set of horns for $60 off eBay. That and the valve, another eBay cheapie, is the only investment, apart from about 9 hours work over 2 days fabricating the custom mount and actuator assembly. Air was already there, 3-gal tank, Viair compressor, yada, yada. There's quite a bit of room in the cavity under the floor in front of the fuel tank. There's 2 studs from the seat mount sticking through there with plenty of threads showing to bolt something on to. Literally no drilling to mount the horns and 1 hole for the control valve in the floor beside the front seat:

The handle is a gun cleaning rod that goes through a hollow bolt to pull the valve. Basically all made from metal scraps, spare nuts and bolts, etc. Making it took about 4 hours but the install was too simple: Drill a hole beside the seat, shove it in from underneath, snug the nut down and re-install the T handle with the c-clip. No electrics to worry about, full manual control. :tu: |
Nice now give us a sound clip! Don't forget to get the horn covers!

Horn covers? :humm:

Very nicely done:tu: Now the fun begins

That is awesome, great work. I bet it sounds so much better being able to control the valve by hand.

You can just sqeeze a little to lean into it for a less terrifying chirp, yank it full on for max effect, or anything in between.

nice very nice
|
i like them with a hand valve. you can get the droan of the horns instead of them opening all the way every time
|
Thats a steal...nice
I was going to make your pics come up in this thread - but you either need to resize them to 800X600 to turn down the pic size on your camera. |
i am looking at doing a set up on mine. but i want to put a pull rope on it. would all you have to do is not hook up the electric button and just run the air line right out of the tank in to the pull valve. i am a little confused on how to go about this. i figure it can't be as simple as i am picturing in my head.:humm:
