Cleaning Of AEM Workhorse
 

I'm looking to buy a AEM workhorse and was wondering what the cleaning procedure was. How easy are they to keep clean? I drive mostly dirt roads and my amsoil cannot keep up.

Do they offer one of the new "dry" element filters? If so, it's just a matter of pulling it off and tapping against your tire a few times. Maybe some low pressure air.

yea its a dry filter but so is my amsoil and thats just a pita to clean

So you can clean a dry filter with water?

Yes, I do mine all the time...a little detergent and water...or when I really wanna see its color again a little purple power soak makes it spanky clean again. I don't recommend shop air though...you don't wanna blow a hole in it, though I guess if you were careful.....

If your amsoil filter isn't keeping up, what makes you think any other filter element is going to? Living on a dirt road isn't going to be easy on ANY type of filter, dry or not.

you might want to try a pre-filter wrap before spending money on a different filter, IMO. i think it's more the environment than it is the type of filter you are using.

the amsoil i was told only to lightly blow out and shake to clean. This is only is cleaning it half way. I'm blowing smoke right now from lack of air. Plus the AEM is much larger then the amsoil i have. I have the 4190?

If it was me, I would throw in the Amsoil 4510 like most people are using. You can clean the amsoil filter with water, if you really want to get it clean, the only problem with that is you have to wait almost a full day for it to dry, so I hope you don't have to drive anywhere. If it was me, and I didn't want to spend more money on a bigger filter, I would find an outerwears prefilter that would fit it to cut down on the dirt. I can tell you that the AEM isn't going to do any better of a job filtering than the Amsoil does, and I believe the AEM filter costs more than even the 4510 filter, which is BIGGER than the AEM filter.

If you go to the AEM website they have a nice little video on how to dip it in the water and cleaning solution.. making sure that you don't dip the inlet opening under the water so the dirt does not get inside...
