Sudden loss of power

07 CTD with 4500kms on it now.
My truck will sit probably a week at a time before I drive it, any how I went to town the other night and noticed a (seat of the pants) power loss.
This power loss is right from low end to top end.
Any suggestions would be appreciated THANKS

No I haven't done the first service on it yet.

Nothing guys?? I know it's kinda vague but any suggestions would be appreciated.
Maybe fuel filter, injector starting to go??

Heath 04-20-2007 07:35 PM

Fuel filter is always the first and easiest to try, but with 4500 miles, I would think that would be a long shot. I know those new ones don't smoke, but did you get any good black stuff when you stepped on it?

No no smoke at all, I this is very vague but I thought I would give it a shot buy asking.
Any opinion any at all, bring them on!! I hate going to the dealer.

4500Kms = 2800 miles...... i hit the thanks button on accident..... i'd get the dealer to look at it if i were you..... it should be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty..... unless you did get a bad batch of fuel.....

Heath 04-20-2007 08:34 PM

Kilometers... get's me every time.

Maj Easy 04-20-2007 09:03 PM

there is a remote probability of your fuel system sucking air somewhere...

how did you get it going again?

try filing up your tank and see if that changes anything....
these are strickly guesses but when my 04's fuel tank gets below a half of a tank, mine does suck air from the fuel pick-up straw in the tank.... hope to fix it someday.....

magram 04-20-2007 10:19 PM

Thanks for the input guys!!
Heath do you think if it was sucking air there would be more of a hesitation at wot??

This is just a sudden loss of power, no hesitation or smoke just no guts!!

Heath 04-21-2007 05:50 AM

Turbo? That would make it drive like a terd. Just too new for these things to be a problem. I agree, a trip to the shop, although I hate going there even if it is warranty work. Ours seems to either not know what going on or fix something that doesn't need fixing:duh3:
As for air, I would think it wouldn't run much at all??

magram 04-21-2007 07:21 AM

I hear ya heath!!! Thanks for your opinions guys and gals

after the power loss occured,
what did you do?
did you idle home? have it towed home?
how did you recover from it?

The truck runs fine, no different from any other time I drive it. It just didn't have that good old cummins puuuuulllllll to it. It almost seemed like the throttle responce was next to nothing, put it to the floor and it seemed to lag, give it 3/4 throttle and it seemed better.

Thanks whit, you know what what my next question is right. lol
Is it in the manual??

Longhorn 04-21-2007 12:43 PM

Hey Mag,

I have an 06 factory ordered, and it needed 2 different reflashes for both power and hard starts...I know this doesnt affect your 07 but all I am saying is that as much as we all hate the dealer, but they have always been good to me...

I agree there is a small likelihood that fuel filter would be the problem with such low kliks so far...But some good advice, dont get your filter from the dealer...they wanted 70bucks to do mine, and I get em at Action Auto or somewhere like that or about $19...very easy to change yourself...

Silly question..are you running UFA farm fuel or any farm fuel??? There have been some recent issues with UFA fuel being a tad dirty and some high water contents...also with the retarde weather we have been having here lately, perfect condidtions to build condensation in your farm tanks if the level is low...

To pull codes...turn your key on and off 3x...this should show your codes in the odometer area...write em down and post here and we can offer some more advice...If no codes it will show -done- in the odo...

Longhorn 04-21-2007 12:47 PM

BTW...Where do you go for service...Bow City....??

magram 04-21-2007 05:50 PM

I have done my own services in the past, I haven't done one on this truck yet.
Hey Longhorn I did the ignition thing 3x on and off and Nada. You don't suppose it's different for the 07??

redneckbuckeye 04-21-2007 06:10 PM

I would still check out the fuel filter , you may have gotten some bad fuel. I hate to go to the dealer too.
