TS MVP vs. Edge Ez

Did a google search and form search and did not find my exact question, so here it goes.

Which will give a better power curve, with my mods below and with the least smoke? I don't want a bigger chip, actually feel the truck has enough power as is - except when loaded with my truck camper and boat @ altitude (5000 to 8000) or when wanna have some fun.

I heard the TS is really nice gain with almost no smoke but it has a bad surge around 8-10psi(guessing fuel curve) compared to the edge which is more uniform but smokyer. I don't mind smoke as a result of more power, but I not into excess smoke.

Thank you

P.S. I have gauges, just not in my sig and the lift pump is stock replacement with only 10k on it, really dont want to change it out now.

We install lots of Edge EZ's and most trucks gain 2-3mpg after install with little to no smoke.

How is the power curve on the EZ? Is it a uniform gain through the rpm band, low end gain, high end gain (thinking this). When towing, my truck spends most of its life around 2k (OD off on steep uphill climbs, and 3.55 gears)

Maybe I am asking too much, or am wrong about Programers but I really don't want a peak power gain or just a low end punch.

Thank you

i had the ez before my juice and it was a good chip not real smoky just a little puff when you step on it. If i remember right the bottom end was still a little slugish just like the truck is stock, gotta wait for the turbo to spool a bit but after it build a little then it felt real smooth and you could notice the power all the way thru :tu:

low end response i hear smarty is the way to go but havent ridden with one before.

I have both.

There is no comparison. The EZ is meh compared to the MVP and just fell on its face when winding out shifts past 2300.

The downside like you mentioned is when the MVP comes on. Mine came on at 7psi and with the dial turned up it was quite the unpleasant hit. Especially on cruise control or towing. When turned down to a 1/4, it wasnt as bad.

Since you have an auto, I dont know if I would get the Smarty. It almost seems hit or miss of playing nice together. I have seen complaints of surging issues.

A manual, no contest. Smarty all the way for non wire tap boxes.

Good luck

ETA - The only programmers are the Smarty and Superchips. They connect through the OBDII port. Other plug and Plays connect at the data link and map sensor on the motor.

I would just get an Edge Comp.

Agreed! Edge Comp, turn down the low end fuel settings to avoid smoke. Tow on 1, maybe 2. The Comp has the potential to end your transmissions life.

True.

He should be able to pick up a comp or drag comp fairly cheap.

Interesting about the smarty, my friend has one on his auto and loves it. His is 6.7 though, maybe different with regards to auto trans. The revo software now is really neat, but smarty's are just a tad too expensive for the HP gain. However, if its justafiable, then I might go smarty.

I would go TST over comp I think, but see turn fuel down would be so hard knowing I could get a whole lot more. Self control:argh: .

The CR and VP Smarty are 2 ENTIRELY different animals, they cant be compared.

If you are having just 1 box I dont know if I would get the TST. The TST PM3 adds only fueling, where the Edge comp adds fueling and timing.

I tried my PM3 by itself the other day and it wasnt real impressive. Stack it with a a plug and play box, then you have something. At least that was my experience.

If you are staying with 1, I would look into a comp or drag comp. They are tried and true boxes that have been around a long time.
