what power upgrades should i get?

okay here is the thing, i have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 and want to make it a beast!:rocking: haha but its gunna have to be a project truck, these are the parts i want to get,

BD exhaust manifold
BD exhaust manifold gaskets
airdog 150
BD Super B Special single Turbo
S&B cold air intake
CMF + intake manifold (black)

BUT.. i only have 6,000 at the moment to spend on it, and i know im going to need some tranny work done... its ether get these parts or get a new billet transmission or build mine up....what do you think i should do? :humm:

Torque Converter and a Valve body for your trans.
AirDog for sure.
Gauges!
4" exhaust.
Stage II intake or BHAF.
Some of the parts you have listed are steps further down the road, and the necessity's are not listed. Once you hit 40+ PSI boost, or have drive pressure issues, then put in a different manifold. You could put a set of injectors in for close to the money of that manifold and gaskets. Also, no programmer of any type? Edge Juice, Comp, Smarty, Quadzilla?

Yup you will definitely need some sort of tuning. I would say some injectors as well!

ever think of taking the stock turbo and doing a compound setup? also youll need ARP studs for the head. and dont forget about a cold air intake and tuner and possibly some injectors. but the auto trans should be dealt with first they are picky

if you have 6 grand you can fully build tranny (have it built, don't buy one), airdog, intake, programmer, and maybe a few other small things... you'll have to do injectors if and when you go with the special, but you won't be able to squeeze that into the budget if you do tranny first (which you should)

okay all great advise thanks everyone! i forgot to say what i already have on the truck my bad i have gauges, exhaust, quadzilla adrenaline and my stock turbo is burnt out :argh: lol but on the transmission what are some must have parts to build one other than valve body? i should get a Torque converter as well im assuming. and if i got the BD super B special what size injectors should i get? and nozzles? would my injection pump handle it at all? and what gear set should i have? i want to be able to make my 35" tires squeal :tu:

once again thanks for all the help you guys!

LIFT PUMP!!!!!!! There shouldn't be any more talk of power upgrades until you address this. What is your fuel pressure at idle and WOT? If you don't feed your injection pump properly, it WILL die. Costing you over $1000.

After the fuel system is upgraded, then start adding power. Torque Converter, Valve Body, new clutches, billet shafts optional. What's you HP goal? Talk to you local shop and see what they suggest. Ask how many they have done, and how long they last.

150HP injectors are a nice size all around. Good power, driveable, still starts well, and won't drain the bank account.

Young bucK 05-04-2012 09:31 AM

yes i plan on getting the airdog 165 would that be enough? and im not sure what my fuel pressure/WOT is at at idle what does it need to be at? if i get the 150hp injectors would i need nozzles? this is clearly the first time ive done this if you haven't noticed by now haha

Diesel Dawgs Performance 05-04-2012 10:36 AM

You will need at least 150hp+ Injectors for that Super B Special 64/71/14. I would get a lift pump and gauges first and then work on the transmission.

Check my sig. Very similar set up to what you want. You will NEED a billet input shaft and at least a laminated flex plate, if not a billet one. The stock ones WILL break with that set up. Ask me how I know:argh: Just get 150 injectors. I wouldn't mess with nozzles IMO. Triple disk convertor is recommended. And as for gear set...don't worry bout it. The power will be plentyfull to roast 35's, even with 3.54 ring n pinion. :tu:
