smarty or edge juice with attitude

i have a 1998.5 and cant decide if i want the smarty or edge which would you all choose.

wyodiesel92 09-28-2011 04:43 AM

Edge. Smarty doesn't make much power if that's what your going for. Edge allows you to monitor other engine vitals too. I have mine setup with fuel pressure fuel and intake temp and throttle percentage and its adjustable on the fly. Make sure you have a goood fuel pump output before you do either thoufgh, edge will give you a gauge fo fuel pressure sensor which is nice if you don't have gagues yet.

How much does the Edge make.

Re: smarty or edge juice with attitude

Around 120hp for the Edge. Around 65hp for the Smarty.

Make sure you have a built tranny first!!!!

EggosBrother 09-28-2011 12:52 PM

My Stock tranny is holding up w/ my Smarty on 4 with timing bumped to 2. I stacked Edge Comp without tapping pump and my trans wants none of it even on lvl 1x3 and Smarty on 4 w/no timing. When i pull my tractor i bump Smarty down to 2 w/no timing and it does fine pulling 8000lbs. Needless to say, the Comp will not be back on until trans is beefed up.

Depends on what condition your tranny is in but its only a matter of time....

Smarty=Cummins 09-28-2011 01:23 PM

Is it really 120hp or 60hp to the back tires cause the smarty says 140 but is putting out 65 to the back wheels.

vcustoms86 09-28-2011 01:58 PM

I can tell a BIG difference between level 1 and 5 on my Edge. I doubt its 120 but i would say 80 or 90.

EggosBrother 09-28-2011 02:20 PM

I have read on here and i'm sure someone will chime in that you cant only count on about 50%-60% of claimed electronic HP

the edge puts 120+ to the rear wheels. the vp smarty makes 65 and I think the smarty for the common rail makes 140

wyodiesel92 09-29-2011 01:58 AM

I believe edge's hp to thw wheels was measured at around 5500 ft above sea level so lower elevation might be a little more and visa versa higher if you want to get technical

skyler1101 09-29-2011 10:00 AM

go with quadzilla and skip both you can fine tune em and in my opinion its the best tuner out right now and the most power a tuner gives for our cummins 180 hp :)

vcustoms86 09-29-2011 11:03 AM

Stay away from quadzilla. :bat:

skyler1101 09-29-2011 11:37 AM

lol why there the best

vcustoms86 09-29-2011 01:14 PM

Before I got my Edge, I read alot of reviews about alot of different programers. I didnt like what i saw about the Quadzilla on the 24v. Anything that claims it can 180hp from a tune on a 24v is pushing the fuel system way beyond capicity and seeing how horribly these have messed up some trucks around here first hand, id stay away from them. If you want to get the "best", then you go to Blue Chip Diesel and either get the FMS box or the Redline box. Those are truly the best for the 24v. :c:

justin mccabe 09-29-2011 09:08 PM

i got a 5 speed and the airdog 150 so i think my trans will hold up just fine same with my fueling if i get the edge i think ill be fine and how much is the blue chip. and thanks everyone for your input its making my choice much easier.

Kraemer 09-30-2011 09:22 AM

with either it will destroy your clutch. personally I think the smarty makes a much more fun to drive truck with the manual tranny, the edge has no bottom end power, but definitely has the top end. It depends what your plans are for the truck, if this is going to be your main upgrade, go with the edge for the gauges...

vcustoms86 09-30-2011 09:26 AM

Blue chip is $1k but its the best for our 24v.

TTCummins 10-01-2011 12:27 PM

I've used Edge Juice w/ Attitude for 2 years now. Simple electronic gauges come with it. Definantly worth the money. :tu:

justin mccabe 10-02-2011 02:59 PM

how much does the blue chip cost

---AutoMerged DoublePost---
