Congrats on the new turbo. I was running a Super B Special for awhile on my 24v. It was ok when I was stationed in NC but when I got out and came to CO, I hated it. At 6000 ft there just isnt enough air. Hopefully you shouldnt have that problem. Also, in my opinion, if the truck was smoking too much you should of gotten something that spools faster instead of that big of a turbo. But sounds like you have more fueling coming so good luck. Hopefully you have a built auto too. I got tired of waiting for that Special to spool every time i shifted. :argh:

What turbo did you go with? Im in Albuquerqe 5500 elevation and wanna do something different than stock.

Cummins Smoke 24v 07-01-2011 08:58 PM

Well guys I got the turbo on the billy it spools very slow and laggy it sounds wicked on the outside tho... It smokes like a mother on low end... And it takes forever to spool.. But the moment I took off the Superchips it seemed liked it ran a whole lot better.. Day and night... So I'm going to leave the Superchips off for a while and just run the 150's it still smokes but not as much.. But my next upgrade as of right now will be propane injection so that bad boy will lite.... And my turbo is a HTT pro street 66/71/14:c:

Re: NEW TURBO!!!!!!!!!!

Forget Propane... You need bigger injectors and a Edge Comp.

Luke

Lostnwalmart 07-01-2011 09:28 PM

Get a programer before propane:argh:

turbostang7 07-01-2011 09:46 PM

im surprised you aren't going into a limp mode with no boost fooling! get a programmer and some quality injectors and you will be good to go :tu:

Cummins Smoke 24v 07-02-2011 08:45 AM

So if I ditch the Superchips and get a smarty will that help out alot I know I guy that would sell me his for 350 bucks and give him my superchips.:humm:

Lostnwalmart 07-02-2011 07:48 PM

No

NEW TURBO!!!!!!!!!!

I can't even imagine running a 66 with no programming and 150 injectors... The spool time would drive me nuts. What are your egts on that setup just out of curiosity? Get an edge juice/hot/edge comp buddy

Diesel Dawgs Performance 07-03-2011 06:52 AM

Re: NEW TURBO!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't bother with the Smarty. Your need a Hot Comp or Edge Juice. You also need atleast 200hp injectors.

i had a Super B Special. Im at about the same elevation and i hated it with my 5spd. With an auto it might not of been so bad but im putting a VGT on it now cause i cant believe how quick those spool.

Cummins Smoke 24v 07-04-2011 09:42 AM

Well I had a edge comp but it didnt perform well... Idk if had the right wire tapped but I ran it alone and my pedal felt dead and there was no smoke on 5x5 So i stacked it with the superchips and it smoked like a freight train.... I got another question real quick what if I sent my htt back in and got the 12cm exhaust housing will that help it spool pretty quick?? and will i still use the hx-40 downpipe with it?

turbostang7 07-04-2011 12:33 PM

that would help spool up some but thats still a big turbo for the fuel you have. does superchips add timing? if so don't stack it with the edge anymore lol, bad for things.
and it will still take the same downpipe if you put the 12cm housing on

01quadcab 07-04-2011 09:01 PM

if your going to send the turbo back get a 62 with a 13cm exhaust housing and you will be super happy. I liked my 62 as a single but wanted more power and added a 475 under it

kingbrad89 07-04-2011 11:07 PM

NEW TURBO!!!!!!!!!!

A 66 with a 12cm exh? hahaha. Dude just sell that thing and get a 62. And an edge... If you want to add more power later on you can get a BW-S475 and throw it underneath. You can find one for $700 when you're ready. Then just make up some piping or buy a compound kit. For now though you're going to like a 62. As far as the experience you had with the edge, something was wrong. Don't let that bother you. You will be happy with an edge juice and a 62, and you can get both for the cost of that 66...

Cummins Smoke 24v 07-05-2011 09:12 AM

yea I might try and put it on craigslist or trade for a smaller one and yes the superchips adds timing..... anyone want to trade for a 62 hahaha?

Re: NEW TURBO!!!!!!!!!!

You would be a lot happier with a 62mm or 64mm.

Luke

D-LUX 07-05-2011 11:03 AM

not to be an ass or anything but everyone told you the 66 was a bad choice.. not saying we know everything about anything but that 66 would be at home on atruck makin double what your makin now.. a 62 with those 150's and some sort of tuner would be TONS better than what you have now...no reason to go against the grain when its proven what works best..

Be nice now, he started the thread after the turbo was ordered

D-LUX 07-05-2011 11:26 AM

uhm yes and no.. he's been around askin what would be best for a turbo for 3 months and the answers were the same across the board.. the decision to buy such a big turbo after knowing what was going to happen was a poor one

Ok. Yeah I never saw a previous post with him asking, my bad. Bigger isn't always better and it shows in this case

Cummins Smoke 24v 07-05-2011 03:38 PM

I agree with D-Lux... yes I know I plan on doing more mods to the truck in the future so I decided to buy a bigger on so in the long run I would not have to buy one.. But I am a very hard headed person as yall can tell.. I like to do it my way and not listen to anyone... but Im looking for a 62... I know a guy that has a Industrial injection silver bullet 64 on his 3rd gen but i dont think it would work on my 2nd gen.. and he said he would do a even trade for my htt.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 07-05-2011 04:27 PM

Re: NEW TURBO!!!!!!!!!!

You would still need a lot more fuel for that 64/74/14.

Luke

D-LUX 07-05-2011 09:08 PM

agreed.. a set of 200's and a cam would be a good start if you were going to try and spool that 64...

Cummins Smoke 24v 07-06-2011 10:23 AM

Luke... I was looking for a 12cm exhaust housing so it would spool quick... would that work?? remember I use my truck for daily driving and tow light with it like pulling my 21ft Majek Boat.. but other than that thats all really... also right now im in the process of building my house.. and every chance I get I have to spend money in the Billy Goat lol.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 07-06-2011 10:31 AM

62/65/14 would work great for towing.

That would take some time to retrofit a mast and to think of the water-proofing:s:
