Smarty Question

Smarty sr. or Smarty jr. for 24v ???

J-Pipes 12-25-2010 10:59 PM

I have the big Smarty, with the revo software, and I realy like it, seems to have a lot of features, has a decent amout of tuning options that are easy to understand and use. The Smarty may not add as much top end peak power as some of the other chips/tuners, but what it does add is 100% usable, off-idle power. Hope this helps u:tu:

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 09:47 AM

What is the Revo software?

J-Pipes 12-26-2010 09:52 AM

It alows you to adjust the tourque management, injection duration and injection timing, between 5 pre-set options for the tourque and timing, and 4 options for the duration.

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 09:55 AM

oh alright:tu: So would you recommend a smarty or injectors first?

J-Pipes 12-26-2010 04:16 PM

As long as you have enough fuel supply, I don't think it would make much difference which one you got first, but I think I would go with the Smarty first, for the extra features, such as code reading, speedo corection and such.

dieselboy88 12-26-2010 05:47 PM

If you do go with the chip then make SURE the next upgrade you do is a better fuel pump to push that extra fuel. If you don't then eventually the stock lift pump will crap out and then the injector pump will follow suite. And that's a minimum 1000 dollar fix. Just in case you didn't already know. :tu:

johnyb59 12-26-2010 06:01 PM

there's only a "SR" for the VP crowd. The Jr. is for CR

J-Pipes 12-26-2010 06:32 PM

Thats what I thought, but wasn't sure so I didn't want to say.

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 08:13 PM

This may be a dumb question but what is VP and CR???:humm:

DanLowe 12-26-2010 08:17 PM

:argh: A VP is a model of injection pump that one may have on a 98.5 to 2002 Dodge. A CR is a common rail cummins because it has a CP3 Injection pump with a fuel rail. It is found on 2003 and later Cummins.

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 08:28 PM

So my only option is a Smarty sr. Correct?

DanLowe 12-26-2010 08:42 PM

If you want to stick with Smarty it's your only option. If you want more power with gauges you've got some other options. You could go with an Edge Juice With Attitude with Hot unlock, I think you're looking at about 140 HP. Another option is a Quadzilla Adrenaline with PCM, this makes about 180 HP on top setting. It all depends on the brand you want or what you're looking for in performance and options.

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 09:00 PM

The only reason i was leaning towards Smarty is because i've heard they were really safe, motor wise... Any advise or suggestions? Thanks

SaltwateR.CowboY 12-26-2010 09:29 PM

On a 2nd gen 24v id go with a smarty sr. for top end and a quazilla adrenaline with pulse for bottom end torque. Combine those and youll have a beast if your trans can handle it... :tu:

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 09:37 PM

i've heard horror stories about stacking and would be a little weary about doing that... wbu

DanLowe 12-26-2010 09:38 PM

My quad doesn't do much for my truck under 2,000 rpm:w2: not sure why, It seems to really take off from there, maybe the fueling curve? :humm:

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 09:43 PM

Thats strange:humm:

SaltwateR.CowboY 12-26-2010 09:49 PM

Had an 01 and it was an amazing stack. I loved it, but if you dont have the trans to back it up then beware, itll start slipping the first time you turn em on lol

Smoke 'em 12-26-2010 10:07 PM

And a tranny is not something an 18 yr old can afford to blow up!!! :argh:

DanLowe 12-27-2010 12:26 AM

Don't worry, a tranny is not something ANYONE can just blow up. Figure its a $3500 repair minimum...trans rebuild with good parts and a torque converter.:s:

Smoke 'em 12-27-2010 08:26 AM

Thats a bullet i do not want to bite!:nope:

your bacwards. Smarty is all bottom end on the VP and the quad picks up where the Smarty stops.

Smoke 'em 12-27-2010 09:33 AM

Where does the Smarty stop? hp and torque wise...

johnyb59 12-28-2010 07:32 AM

about 2200, 2300 rpm. It is 65 hp and 200 ft. lbs.

Smoke 'em 12-28-2010 10:50 AM

Oh wow thats it?:argh:

johnyb59 12-28-2010 12:14 PM

To which part?
65 hp is all you can get out of any programmer.

Smoke 'em 12-28-2010 09:01 PM

65 hp is all you can get??? Really:humm:

johnyb59 12-28-2010 09:15 PM

Yup

Smoke 'em 12-28-2010 09:37 PM

even with and edge of an adrenaline?

ironhead79 12-29-2010 12:06 AM

If it goes into the OBD port under the dash its 65 hp. at most, this includes edge ez. The only way to get more is to have a fueling box , like edge comp, quad adr, tst pm. Of those the most user friendly is the comp its just 3 buttons, 5 levels each with 5 sub levels, #2 is tst,#3 adr. Hope this helps you out!!! Been playing with motors for 29yrs. out of 43 I still love it!!!!:c:

cummins270 12-29-2010 12:16 AM

I run the edge juice with attitude on my 99 and I like it over the smarty cause you change the power levels on the fly and it gives me all the gauges including egt I would highly recomend the edge. Ive also heard of problems with the quadzilla

oldduallyfart 12-29-2010 12:34 AM

What kind of problems with the quadzilla.I was about to buy one.

cummins270 12-29-2010 12:54 AM

Screen going out alot and they have crappy service. Ive never ran one though but I like my edge quiet alot

MP03 12-29-2010 01:55 AM

Smarty Question

Why such little power out of these vp trucks? My smarty pod so6 I just got goes up to 170 but I got a CR though.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 12-29-2010 06:25 AM

I would get a set of injectors before I would get a Smarty.

cummins270 12-29-2010 09:43 AM

Mpo3 the reason your truck got so much more power because the pump on your truck pumps a hell of alot more pressure to the injectors then vp trucks do

been running one for a bit.. absolutly no problems so far.. ive heard of the older models having problems but ive had none... just be prepared to toast that auto tranny...the quad adr fuels REALLY hard...

ive run an edge Juice w/ Attitude and a blue chip FMS on the truck and the quad is by far my favorite
