My lift pump went out today. second day of owning this truck and i cant even drive it. it will turn over but wont crank. I know i can buy a new lift pump and i have heard a couple of my buddies talkinf about p pumping their 24 valves and was wondering what all i could do to make this happen. Sorry for the wordy thread and thanks in advance for any help, im new to the diesel world

So are you thinking your lift pump went out or your injection pump? If it's your lift pump just replace it with an airdog or fass and be done with it. There's a lot involved in p pumping a 24v. Not to mention about $2600 or more in parts. The hotrod vp's are good for some serious horsepower, the monster vp's even more so. And that'll save ya at least 1k in cash. Sucks that you just got it and it the bed on you tho. Can you hear the lift pump run when you bump the key?

i got fed up with it today and called my diesel buddy. he told me to get a carter lift pump and put it in for now since i just need it running and am not upgrading till the cash gets right. i went ahead and changed the fuel filter and in the bottom of the filter housing was a handful of dirt debris so i pulled it and cleaned it out real good. Im going to finish it up tomorrow and hopefully everything will be fine

i guess the best way for me to install a temporary fuel gauge would be to install a t off the output side of the lift pump before the vp44 and run it from there. how does that sound. and remeber this is temporary untill i get my gauge pod in next week

Or just do it right the first time and get a banjo bolt that has the 1/8" npt port in it. Then you can just run the gauge off that. I know theyre available on jkidd's website... Here a link... with that new carter pump i dont think im going to be able to use the banjo bolts. im going to try to but its looking like its going to be some fittings instead of the banjo bolts

Is it a filtered pump? If not then just run the carter pump to the stock fuel canister and keep everything the same from the canister to the vp44. Then use that banjo with the 1/8" port

ahhhh, making sense now. I guess ill have to rig something up till i get my banjo bolt in. Thanks for the help

Yeah it needs to be filtered some how some way... If i recall correctly the fitting into the fuel canister is the same as the banjo bolt sizing. So in theory you could run fuel pressure off either or... But in general yes you do need the fuel pump and the banjo bolt... And no problem man
