EGT how hot is too hot?
Just installed Raptor 150 and draw straw so now fuel pressure is not an issue and I can open up the throttle if I want. If I get on it real hard with my edge on 5 my EGT gets up to over 1500. I back out of it when it hits 1500, my question is how hot is too hot?

from what i've heard 1200 is as high as you want to push that turbo, but it's up to you 1500 for a couple seconds probably won't hurt anything
|
OK, I was thinking that 1500 was probably too hot. I guess I'll set my alert at 1200 and keep it safe. Thanks Bobcat.

yep, i could be wrong but i've heard 1200 is where you should calm down, and 1350 on common rails with stock turbo's so everyone is different

I can't see your signature as I am on my Blackberry, what turbo are you running?

being that i fried the rings on my Dmax @ 1500° i don't recommend it... but i bet the 6BT is stronger than a LLY :)

An HY35, that has a a wastegate with NO hose running to it? If so, plug that bugger OFF! I did that for many months and never did any damage to the turbo, and was able to reduce m EGT's by 400 degrees. With it plugged, and making 30 PSI I never went over 1100 EGT's, before my injector upgrades. With the wastegate active and set to 18 PSI, I easily hit 1500 EGT's.
It is a little tricky to plug off a wastegate that it a metal tube, but is possible. I took a machine screw, 10-24 size, and thread it into the tube that inters the compressor housing. After it was in there, I used a bench grinder to reduce the size of the head so it can fit back into the compressor housing. Worked like a damn, that's for sure. I sold that turbo to a buddy I used to work with 6 months ago, and it is still working 100%. Granted I did remove the plug before I sold it. Best of luck, let me know if you need any more info. |
you can run 1300* all day long and 1400-1450* for short bursts on these cummins engines much over that and will start melting things down so i would say 1500 is too hot
