Installing The FASS?
 
Hey Guys, Am new to the forum! I am on Dodgeforum alot but figure I would get some addivce from yall too.

I installed my FASS system on my 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 yesterday. Spent almost 5 hours on it. Bled the lines, bumped the starter to bleed them. Checked all the connections. The FASS in brining about 16 psi to the VP44 and still it wont start. Had to leave the truck at the shop last night. Any idea on what could be causing the no starting??

You can almost count on the fact that there is still air trapped in the system some place. Your gonna have to crack some fittings open and bump the starter until you see a steady flow of fuel running out, no air bubbles included. Once you see that then tighten it down and go to the next one.

If there is not an excessive amount of air you can crank the starter and hold the go pedal to the floor while your doin it. This will open up the system and let the air pass through.

Odds are pretty good though that you have 16psi of air pressure being pushed by fuel trapped in the line someplace.

Alright. Thanks alot! When I get back to the shop. Will try and get more air out, but when we were bleeding the lines yesterday, there was almost so little air coming out that you could barely see any air bubbles. But we will try it some more. Thanks.

You may just have air pockets in there. Fuel on both sides of it that you are seeing but to much air to make the truck run. The air also may be trapped in the VP44 itself. When you drain the whole system to replace major components it's an iffy thing. Sometimes you won't have a problem in the world with air and other times you will fight heaven and hell to get it all purged.

As an afterthought I'm assuming that you installed the FASS because of fuel problems. Are you confident in your injection pump still being good. If you were having fuel pressure problems prior to the install This might be part of the issue.

YA its air in there........ya need to crack a few injector lines then bump the Fass a couple times.........................3 lines will get ya goin man

Just for curiosity sake you may look through this thread also if you were having low pressure problems prior to this install. I can't speak for how much much of it I understand and agree with, but just tryin to get you all the info we can, just in case it turns out to be somethin more then air. But I'd put my money on air though.

I was only having a problem in level 5 on the edge with attitude...i never saw it drop below 5 or 6 because i didnt let it...

ill try and get some more of that air out..

the only place we have been bleeding it is right next to the banjo boilt is where my edge attitude senor works....

Easiest place to get to is the injector nuts. Just be sure you don't get crazy when you tighten em back up. Lot a people tend to way over tighten em. Even if there still air in the lines here and there, if you can get enough fuel to the injectors it will run rough while it works itself through.

Man it took a while to bleed the lines, but we finally got it. WE just loosened the 3 and 4 injectors and let them bleed untill it started. Worked great! Now on the only problem I have is a little bit of fuel leaks where they had me install the drain in the fill net part and it leaks where the hose clamps are and they are as tight as could be..so we will figure that out next week...

but man does that FASS help ALOT if the EDGE! I Have nevetr seen below! 15 PSI and it stays rightat 16 PSI all the time! its great! for sure is a great product..

Be very careful when you crack injector lines. The fuel is very high pressure and can cause SERIOUS injury.

Never stick your fingers anywhere around the injectors either when checking for leaks. Always use cardboard or something similar....

What kind of fuel line and fittings are you using.

If you have a small leak at the fitting and the clamps are tight, I am gonna go out on a limb and say you are using barbed fittings and probably put the hose on and off a few times. If this is the case, if you cut or pryed the old line off you probably nicked the barb. If this is the case they won't seal and your gonna need to replace it.

If you are using barbed fittings with high pressure fuel line, you also don't need clamps, they do more harm then good in most cases. The fittings are designed to not be used with clamps. I did this same thing on a few fittings before the guy at the local race shop saw what I was doing and told me not to use them on the rest of em. Sure enough some of the clamped fittings weep fuel but none of the un-clamped ones have any sort of leak.

it is just a hose clamp that u tighten with a screw driver or 8mm wrench...i got under there and cranked the crap out of it untill it wouldnt move anymore and we will see if it still leaks tomarrow...i dont know if these are the same things u are talking about or not..

Technically speaking the fittings I am talking about are called pushlock fittings. If your using actual fuel fittings they are either the push lock type or the slip in type that are used for the Braided stainless steel hoses. It is common to use the brass hydraulic type fittings though and they are barbed and do need clamps.

Of these three types, only the slip on below needs clamps.
